Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Sessions was basically doing what he has been doing, saying that the bill they are debating is not a good bill...and that they are trying to fix it with amendments...but the fact is..the underlying bill has the "wrong base"
Because they are talking about taking people that have broken the law...and giving them a path to citizenship...but, that this isn't what he thinks President Bush wants..that he wants a "temporary worker" bill, with border security..
Sessions then just made the comment that he felt that the Kyl/Cornyn Bill was based more on the idea that President Bush had..kind of an off the cuff type statement.
Well...Hagel charges down and says what I posted earlier...and after ranting, said he would like Sessions to come to the floor and "prove" that Bush wants what Sessions says...
Anyway...it was just nasty by Hagel...and I was really glad to hear Sessions say that about President Bush.
This is a big mess...and I wish President Bush would call them up and tell them to either start over...or better yet..say that he is sending the National Guard to the border and that is all for now.
I think he would make millions of Americans VERY happy if he did that.
Sorry, I missed Craig...
BTW..they are working tomorrow, no votes though.
Which means a couple of speeches on the Senate floor with LONG quorum calls until about noon...then they will go home...LOL
Re: Craig, earlier, he was up talking against the Kyl Amendment clarifiying that the underlying bill is for a path to citizenship which ISN'T a "temporary worker"...so he and Cornyn and Sessions wanted that spelled out in the bill.
It eventually was tabled by votes...blech
Hagel makes a very good Democrat
Remember yesterday how McCain during his hissy fit twisted the President's words to fit his argument
As for the President .. yes, he is for a temporary workers program and if they want to become a citizen .. they have to fill out the paperwork, pay a fine and get in the back of the line
This is a big mess...and I wish President Bush would call them up and tell them to either start over.
The President shouldn't have to hold their hand .. they were elected to do a job the people in their State want .. not what they want
IMO .. some of these Senates are more like activists then elected Representatives of the people of their state
I give you both a lot of credit. Can't believe your still watching. My cable cuts it out at 6pm. I didn't know this was going on until I went to Michelle Malkins blog and she said this just happened.
LOL...you think this is bad...I have been known to watch c-span and the HOUSE doing their thing until midnight!!!
My mom, bless her heart, told me I better stop watching or I'm going to get an ulcer..LOL
The only thing I've learned from all this is that most of our reps care more for illegals than us.
You would be right about that...I have heard very little about Americans...it is like they are trying plan the "yellow brick road" for the illegals to use.
Your Mom is probably right...and I tell myself that for my own mental and physical health I need to just stop watching the Senate...and sometimes the House.
BUT, I took the 80's and the 90's off to raise my kids...so I figure this is my punishment for being SO clueless. LOL
LOL .. I wonder myself why I watch .. it's like watching a really bad movie

Opening Prayer
Morning, Mo1. I just heard John Scott say that La Raza doesn't like the English as the national language amendment.

Senate Votes Twice for English Language
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1634969/posts
Thanks for the "updates"....have they actually talked about anything yet this morning??
Cornyn has an amendment that will allow ICE to share information if they detect fraud in applications. Currently, they are not allowed to do so and the bill as it currently exists does not fix that.
Session's up saying this bill should NEVER pass
