People to counter Monday's boycott by shopping and speaking up
The Orange County Register ^ | Sunday, April 30, 2006 | PEGGY LOWE

MISSION VIEJO - Sandra Sweet was 8 the last time she did anything political in public. She thinks.

She has this vague memory of being a little girl when her father took her to a political rally in Washington, D.C., that involved the Vietnam War and something about "a march for victory."

So it's surprising that Sweet, 45, is organizing a "pro-American" rally in Santa Ana on Monday to counter what some are calling "the Great American Boycott." Armed with her e-mail address book – and a sense of alarm – Sweet is taking the first political action of her adult life.

I believe I will greet everybody at the airport (as I take a $1K airline flight), the rental car agency (as I begin a month's rental), the hotel, the restaurants with a big "Happy Bite the Hand that Feeds You Day". Will also probably do some shopping.

Welcome to FR.

I believe the other poster meant for their comments to be taken in a friendly manner.

You can stop shouting. (In other words, turn off your caps lock.)

I know how you feel. Around here (Southern California) the illegals are so rude, pushy and belligerent, I'm afraid to go a lot of places, too.

I'm a citizen of Orange County, a legal citizen, too. Wife and I will have our list done and plan to head out early to do our part. We even are getting b'day and Christmas presents for the grand kids.

" Boycotts or embargoes" are acts of war under international law. That's why JFK called the Cuban embargo a quarantine.

...change the number of dependents to 99..

Right - and your employer would then be obliged to report such a claim to the IRS and you are in a whole heap of trouble.

I applaud Ms. Sweet for her effort and hope that she is joined by many, many counter protesters across the country. I support those who make the effort to counter the boycott by making many purchases on May 1. Mid week I too was concentrating my efforts on coming up with a plan to counter this 'boycott' even if in just some small way. My focus has changed, drastically.

I am an avid supporter of President Bush. A huge reason I voted for him was because I trusted his ability to fight the war on terror and to protect this country from terrorism and I have supported ALL of his decisions in that regard, incuding Dubai, but have been frustrated with the inaction on the borders. I have felt that the inaction was due to both parties' appeasement of Latino voters

In ONE day, millions and millions of illegal alien invaders and their supporters have ANNOUNCED to President Bush and our leadership in D.C., that they WILL illegally take over major cities and shut down the entire country. They have made their demands clear and have stated that their objective is to intimidate our government into meeting their demands, which include immediate and full legalization, taking back their stolen land and open, unchecked borders.

'Boycott?" Their 'boycott' is a dangerously massive, threatening, uncontrollable assembly of foreign invaders, who's intentions are meant to be a show of force, all across the country, against our government, are an 'in your face' dare to any oppposition, and are, imo, without a doubt, a threat to national security. It is a threat that our government has created, done nothing to prevent, and is doing nothing to stop.

"The 11,000,000 illegals DON'T vote."

...unless they live in Democrat-controlled precincts in major cities like Philadelphia, St. Louis, Madison WI, or Miami. If they do, they vote 100% Democrat.

....same here in the South Bay. You can't even smile or talk to their kids without them grabing them and pulling them away.

My anecdote:Within the last year or so several hispanic families have moved into my neighborhood. My next door neighbors moved in a year or so ago. They won't say hello when i'm outside.I wave when i go by in my car. They don't wave back, and avoid any eye contact.Very strange and rude! Not very neighborly imo:(

What does that have to do with the issue at hand in this thread? A lot of Republican politicians support amnesty/guest worker legislation, so, related to the coming Monday events, your idea is a non sequitur.

Oh, that's the old "Mal de Ojo" thing going on. You mustn't smile at their cute little anchor babies (Bush Babies?) because that brings the Evil Eye on them. It means something like stealing children--the old legend of changelings...?

It's a holdover from Moorish influence in Spain (I think--would be interested to hear if I'm wrong). One indication that it has Islamic tradition written on it is the wearing of bits of blue jewelry. In Islamic tradition, the color blue wards off the evil eye. That's why the burqua in Afghanistan was always blue, because women are so evil they need a charm against the devil.

Anyway, it's a very primitive thing. They probably also put eggs under their beds to absorb sickness. At least they have to pay their curanderos with cash, and it keeps them out of the ER.
