Give the guy a break. His statement refers to those who abuse the first amendment.

He said this a couple years back: “We called free speech ‘soft money’,” said McCain, “and then we banned free speech. We called self-defense ‘assault’, and then we banned that too.”

If McCain really said that he just kissed the Office of the President Good Bye. Without the First Amendment there will be no Freedom in this country and the government will be even dirtier than it is. If he said this and means this he is either to stupid to be President or to dangerous to be president. I hope he did not say this.

In a rare show of honesty, John McCain places the final nail in his presidential coffin. NO friggin way any conservative will EVER vote for this man. If "clean govt" equals McCain-Feingold and the like, I'd rather take the First Amendment. At least it's objective. "Clean" is relative and subjective.

McCain is really saying he'd rather have a government the way HE thinks it should be rather than a government constrained in what it can and cannot do to its people. Great formula for tyranny.
