In a rare show of honesty, John McCain places the final nail in his presidential coffin. NO friggin way any conservative will EVER vote for this man. If "clean govt" equals McCain-Feingold and the like, I'd rather take the First Amendment. At least it's objective. "Clean" is relative and subjective.
McCain is really saying he'd rather have a government the way HE thinks it should be rather than a government constrained in what it can and cannot do to its people. Great formula for tyranny.
Never underestimate the ability of "the base" to hold their noses and "vote for the lesser of two evils" when bashed about the head repeatedly by party operatives in the runup to the election.
Elections have long ceased to be about electing the best candidate for the office, and are now about consolidating power for "our" team. It's sports, but the costumes are pinstripe suits and wingtips instead of funny-looking clohing and cleated shoes.
"The Party" knows (either party!) that with winning, comes power -- and with power, comes control. And with control, comes money. (And with money, comes winning, and thus...)
For this The Founders gave their all? Their lives, their sacred honor?
No, I don't think so.
Life in a tyranny isn't really that bad at all -- for the tyrants.
