Mexican lawmakers will travel to Los Angeles to support immigrant protests

MEXICO CITY – Mexican lawmakers issued a declaration of support for immigrant protests planned in the United States on Monday and said they will send a delegation to Los Angeles to show their solidarity. The declaration, issued late Thursday by all the political parties in the lower house of Congress, contrasts with the position of Mexico's Foreign Department, which has said it will discipline any consular officials who take part in the protests.

The delegation of lawmakers will meet with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, it said in a news release from Congress.

“The only thing we are looking for is to end this dehumanizing situation and get the recognition of the migrant labor force,” Federal Deputy Maria Garcia said. “People who go looking for work should not be treated like criminals with the risk of being tried in federal courts.”

Activists are urging immigrants across the United States to skip work, avoid spending money and march in the streets to demonstrate their importance to the U.S. economy.

The protest, dubbed “A Day Without Immigrants,” comes as the U.S. Congress debates immigration bills proposing everything from toughened border security to the legalization of all 11 million undocumented migrants in America.

Activists south of border have called for a boycott of all U.S. businesses on Monday in support of the protests.

Mexicans living in the United States sent back home about $20 billion in remittances last year.

President Vicente Fox has lobbied relentlessly for an immigration reform in the United States. However, his administration has held back from getting involved the immigrant protests, saying it does not want to violate U.S. sovereignty.

Me three. And it's not that Bush is "out of touch", or that he doesn't know what we think-he just doesn't give a rat's ass. Just as WJC wanted a peace treaty between Israel and the PLO to be his "legacy", so does GWB want his legacy to be a free trade zone throughout the Americas, with open borders as the price to be paid . That US citizens hated the idea of an FTAA , and that the FTAA was met with less than tepid interest by Central and South America means as little to him as the bare words of the Koran meant to WJC (ie, that the PLO's motives are more than just politics and economics-there's religious theory motivating them, too. Clinton and liberals in general never will see that.)

Too many people on this board are blinded by Republican affilitation. You're right, at this point it doesn't matter. The country will fail in 50 years or less and both the Repubs and Demos will take us there, so it doesn't matter. Better to let it fall, so that decent freedom lovers can rebuild the new USA. Where that will be, I have no idea.

If the fed was doing anything to stop this they would deny these 'people' visas.

The commanders meet with their forward deployed invasion forces to provide direct, tactical battlefield guidance.

Egads, have y'all seen the new TDAmeritrade commercial. I saw it this morning and it aired again just now. It's beyond the pale talking about the hard working immigrants who made America great. As if they're not linking illgals to those who came legally through Ellis Island. If only I had stock through them, I'd be on the phone taking my American dollars out of their sleazy hands.

How is this not tantamount to declaring war by economic assault? They want to shut down cities.

President Vicente Fox ... has held back from getting involved the immigrant protests, saying [he] does not want to violate U.S. sovereignty.

This is so far removed from reality it is beyond laughable! Unfortunately the consequences of this invasion are grave.

If the Democrats want to impeach Bush it should be over his border policy which will weaken the union by creating a balkanized southwest and likely lead to a civil war in the next 100 years.

How many does that leave? I don't see the judiciary stepping forward.

But of course allowing tens of millions of your citizens to invade a neighbor nation isn't violating that nation's sovereignty.

Vincinte, you're an ass. Come up with some legislation that can help your own citizens and keep them home.

Show me a nation happy to get rid of it's next generation and I'll show you a nation in serious trouble.

Actually, Mexico is the richest country in Latin America, and one of the richest countries on earth.

It's just the system the racists in charge over there have implemented guarantees a life of poverty for most.

But they still wave Mexican flags when they come here...(the country that spit them out).

We don't need corrupt Mexican politicians telling us how to run America.

As opposed to the corrupt American politicians we have now?

I wish I could be that optimistic. I don't think that there are enought people who really care anymore. Our education system has failed and the more recent generations don't know history, only the rewritten version. One can always hope though that there will be enough patriots when the time comes.

The US has completely lost it's mind. I'm sure that most of the "greatest generation" are rolling in their graves knowing that America has surrendered to Mexico without even a shot being fired. We've defeated Nazism, Fascism and Communism but have surrerendered to a 3rd world sh$thole known as Mexico.

Mexican lawmakers will travel to Los Angeles to support immigrant protests yet Americans would be arrested if they did the same in Mexico.

Oh the hypocrisy of the filthy Mexicans.
