BLOGS DOWN: HACK ATTACK By Michelle Malkin · April 28, 2006 11:51 AM
Many Hosting Matters-hosted blogs are down--including Instapundit, Power Line, and tons of others large and small. Hosting Matters' own website is also down.
Blogger Chuck Simmins e-mails:
Denial of service attack on Hosting Matters. Most, if not all, their hosted sites are down. Attack is originating internationally.
Haven't been able to confirm. But stay tuned.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering if an attack on these blogs was underway -- I guess there is.

I'm not a member of the Tin Foil Hat Club, but I wonder if terrorists would be better off attacking blogs rather than the MSM.
Free Republic and others are far better at getting out the REAL news than CNN, ABC and the like are.

The
LGF Lizard brigade is still up. Although they're hosted by the company being attacked, they're on a different server.

Seriously... I'm thinking that this might just be a benign slashdotting. Have any of these sites gotten a lot of exposure recently? Something that would cause a whole bunch of people to want to visit them all at once?

What, exactly, is slashdotting? A bunch of people going to a site at once?

But we wouldn't get much news if we didn't have the real news outlets posting their news for us to read and comment on.
The blogs still aren't doing a lot of original news. A lot of original COMMENTARY, but not a lot of boots-on-the-ground grind-em-out reporting of news.
We do seem to do well on "breaking stories" because we have eye-witnesses, but few people not employed to do so have the time or energy to do an in-depth investigative story.

Something that would cause a whole bunch of people to want to visit them all at once?Doubt it. These are all conservative/right sites. Most conservatives are at work now. This is a moonbat attack.
To: canadianally
The important thing is that Free Republic is still up and running.

Nah, terrorists wouldn't waste their time on blogs. If they were going to waste time and risk detection, they would hit something far more valuable such as DOD computers or major financial institutions. Knocking a few blogs offline for a few hours wouldn't gain them anything.
