Biting the Hand that Feeds You
The Office of Congressman Steve King ^ | 4-25-06 | Congressman Steve King, IA

Posted on 04/28/2006 7:40:42 AM PDT by pwking

On May 1st, the activists who brought you thousands of Mexican flags flying in marches down the streets of our cities are now bringing you "Nothing Gringo Day". With help from the Mexican government, Mexican unions, Mexican political groups, and through the Spanish language radio and newspapers, the call has gone out to make America experience a total boycott, both here and in Mexico. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Just the word "boycott" sparks the image of noble dissent in the face of economic or social oppression. I think of American colonials bucking British economic interests in retaliation to the Stamp Act. Or perhaps the ostracizing of Irish landlord Charles Boycott, the namesake of the verb for all tyrannized people. If not tyrannized, at least disgruntled. If not disgruntled, maybe just bored.

Yet, isn't the key to a successful boycott an economic or social upper-hand? The cost must be felt if the offending party be forced to reform. For example, how does boycotting a movie you had no intention of going to affect the box office? More people probably see a boycotted movie due to the attention than if it had simply been ignored.

President Carter thought he was on to something when he kept American athletes out of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. That showed 'em. That particular boycott neither got the USSR out of Afghanistan nor brought down the Berlin Wall. It just caused our own athletes to suffer.

The May 1st anti-Gringo-fest is also being billed as "A Day Without Immigrants" which is a misnomer on a couple of counts. First, the threatened boycott fails to conjure the image of a Norwegian refusing to buy his May 1 lutefisk at the corner Fareway. Second, the pro-amnesty groups are insistent on confusing legal and illegal immigration. Let's not start mixing our apples and oranges. The issue before Congress is illegal immigration. Perhaps the May 1st boycott should give America a glimpse into "A Day Without ILLEGAL Immigration."

What would that May 1st look like without illegal immigration? There would be no one to smuggle across our southern border the heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamines that plague the United States, reducing the U.S. supply of meth that day by 80%. The lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day. Another 13 Americans would survive who are otherwise killed each day by uninsured drunk driving illegals. Our hospital emergency rooms would not be flooded with everything from gunshot wounds, to anchor babies, to imported diseases to hangnails, giving American citizens the day off from standing in line behind illegals. Eight American children would not suffer the horror as a victim of a sex crime.

On the negative side, the price of a pound of tomatoes might go up from $0.79 to $0.80. That is unless you have a garden. But I'm guessing that the Mexican drug lords are not taking May 1st off. Neither will the 11,000 illegal invaders that pour over our border every other day of the year. It is a safe bet that the U.S. Border Patrol will have a very busy "Nothing Gringo Day."

Since September 11th, it remains true that OBL is the greatest threat to America. I will leave it to the reader to decide if the greatest threat is Osama bin Laden or the Open Borders Lobby. The emerging cheap labor "ruling class" in America is the strongest supporter of amnesty for illegals. Their anti-American "new servant class" has chosen to boycott them; the very definition of irony. On May 1st, Primero de Mayo, Americans will observe, as illegal immigrants celebrate, "Bite the Hand That Feeds You Day."

It amazes me that they think this is going to help their "plight". Plight! I just heard some maroon on FOX stating that helping the immigrants with their plight is the reason he produced the spanish National Anthem. I nearly fell out of my chair. If their "plight" is so dire here, let them go home.

Well I will let you know that as a Catholic I am outraged at the extremely loud vocals from Bishops and Cardinals, Where are all of these "humanitarians" when people are marching are fighting for the unborn. They go silent. I have decided to boycott the Church. No attendance and NO MONEY. I'm sad to say I think the Church that I have always loved has been infiltrated by pure evil.

I pray for God to show his power SOON.

And WHY is the word "Gringo" okay? We don't have "Nothing Wetback Day." Because that would be RUDE and we KNOW it.

Juan Jose Guiterrez is just starting with the Latino Movement in this country.

Boycott? You all ain't seen nothing yet.

President Bush has called on all US Citizens to engage in "civil discussion", while they actively grow louder and louder. Till their voice is the only one that Congress will hear.

I swear, if someone organized a Nation wide counter protest to convince Congress to secure our Borders, the Latio Movement would run for cover.

We are like little lambs being led to slaughter.

I guess May 1 would be a good day to head to the emergency room to get that nagging in-grown toe nail taken care of as there will be no waiting line.

"I have decided to boycott the Church. No attendance and NO MONEY."

Not attending mass will not affect any cleric but will only hurt you. Remember, the Church is not any individual even if they are a Priest or Bishop. The Church was founded by Christ and you will not go wrong following it's religious teachings. Political rantings of Church officials is just that, rantings. Fight against them politically, but practice your faith based on the teachings of Jesus.

And we are not suppose to be involved in what "belongs to Rome" (not vatican), or cast our pearls before swine. If you can't see the obvious difference in their reaction to the invaders and the wailing to stop the murder of the innocents. Your not looking close enough. I don't believe God will let this go unnoticed.

Where were these clergy when Bishop Gracida was on his KNEES praying for the unborn at the door of an abortion mill. I have no doubt God has a special seat at his table for Bishop Gracida. But these clergy remind me of the Sanhedrin that marched and yelled for Christ Crusifixtion. They didn't have a law to kill him so they marched to get the spineless Pilate to do the deed. It is no accident that they chose the Communist Holiday for this little civil disobedience.

How come they can call me "Gingo", but I can't call them "Spics"?

I don't disagree with you about some of the clergy - they will have to answer to God for their actions. My point is, do not let the actions of clergy, who are mere men, affect your relationship with Christ or his Church. We are only required to be faithful to the teachings of the Church not to any Bishop or Priest who may be, and often are, wrong.
You can be a faithful Catholic and still fight against the secular positions of local Priests and Bishops. Many of us do.

In response, I've decided to forego any goods or services that I know or have reason to believe are being produced using illegal immigrant labor. Duration of the boycott: Forever.

The next item on the list is eliminating Chinese (PRC)-manufactured goods to help the current account deficit and stop funding the expansion of Chinese military power.

I probably can't get 100% effectiveness on either but 75-80% should be possible. Every little bit helps.

History and Language Lessons... Free, Today only!

I seriously hope that the majority of the posts on this wall are jokes. The amount of close-minded, uneducated rants is honestly disturbing. As Americans, you have the right to believe whatever you want, but at least try to get the facts before you make outlandish assumptions.
First of all, "gringo" is the equivalent of "yankee" in English. It's not racial. It means someone from the United States. Since we're on the subject, I'd like to point out that there is no word in the English language that is the equivalent of "United States citizen", but in Spanish, there are two: gringo and estadounidense. We say "American", but are Canadians or Mexicans or Bolivians any less American? Don't they live in America too, whether it be north or south? And if you don't like the word gringo because you find it offensive, then write a letter to the Commissioner of Baseball, because "America's game" shouldn't be stained with an awful word like "Yankee".
Now for some history... Unless you're a Native American, YOUR ancestors were once just like these Hispanic immigrants. They're not just from Mexico, either. That's just the "over-generalization" kicking in. They're from all over the world, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and yup, even Europe. So... what are you? Irish, German, Polish, Scandinavian? Those sure don't sound like English-speaking countries to me! My guess is that your ancestors came here not knowing a word of English, having barely more possessions than what they could carry, and not knowing a soul. They came here to escape religious persecution, economic struggle, and a chance at a better life. They came here so that they could bask in the glory of the American dream and have the freedom to do, say, and think whatever they pleased. Well, that dream is still alive today, if you're a white Christian man.
Every ethnic group, every other religion, everyone else, even women aren't allowed to THINK, DO, or SAY whatever they please. Think about it. Maybe you feel like you are protecting the ideals of America... but who are you protecting them for?

This May 1st thing about not going to work and or school is nothing new. This is what they do on the 1st of every month, not just May 1st. Think about it....businesses and schools always have the highest number of absentees on the 1st of every month. These people will be too busy driving from post office to post office and will not have time to demonstrate in the numbers seen several weeks ago. Besides, these demonstrations are hurting them more then they realize, with ICE raids becoming more and more common after the last demonstration. That and the fact that we can boycott forever is going to take a toll on this nonsense.
