Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said Thursday he is considering legislation to cut off funding for the Bush administrations secret domestic wiretapping program until he gets satisfactory answers about it from the White House.
Specter said he had informed President Bush about his intention and that he has attracted several potential co-sponsors. He said hes become increasingly frustrated in trying to elicit information about the program from senior White House officials at several public hearings.
"It is true that we have no assurance that the president would follow any statute that we enact," Specter said. He said hes considering adding an amendment to stop funding of the program to an Iraq war-hurricane relief bill being debated by the Senate this week and next.

"He said hes become increasingly frustrated in trying to elicit information about the program from senior White House officials at several public hearings."That's because this is a classified national security program and responsible White House officials do not provide much information about such programs at public hearings. Perhaps Sen. Specter should try holding a closed private hearing, or maybe he should pick up the phone and talk to Alberto Gonzalez.

BINGO. Specter's alleged "loyalty" to the President (let alone the GOP) remains "not proven". I tell you, I think the chemo and radiation toasted his brain, not that it needed any extra degradation.

IMO, to inflame those ethnic fires for your own ethnic politics. The only times in my life that I have voted Libertarian were against Specter. I refuse to vote for the sumbitch and I wasn't gonna vote for the Democrat either.

Seems like Specter wants to let the Dems off the hook on this one. Why not let the Dems make these threats for themselves?
To: jmc1969
