They sure don't go up and down with the price of crude. No they don't. But it would appear you're equating high gas prices with the price of crude oil. That's a mistake - there are a number of other factors involved in gas prices.

You need to get into the oil business. Then you could make your killing by hiring geologists to locate your site, then negotiating the terms for drilling, refining, paying taxes and distributing your product, and undercutting all those others (plural, who are in a position to do the same thing) who you claim are otherwise gouging us.
You'd be a hero. A broke one, but a hero nonetheless.

That's because gas prices are set by the gas futures market and trade based on a separate set of variables from oil. Oil can stay the same but gas prices rise due to seasonal demand, ect ....
