Illusionist Tricks Armed Robbers(David Copperfield)

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - David Copperfield has magically escaped getting robbed.

The 49-year-old illusionist was walking with two female assistants to their tour bus after his show Sunday at a performing arts center when four teens pulled up in a black car, a police report said.

Two armed robbers allegedly got out of the car and demanded the group's belongings. One woman handed over $400 from her pockets and the other gave up her purse with 200 euros, $100, her passport, plane tickets and a cell phone. Copperfield refused to empty his pockets, the report said.

Copperfield says he turned his pockets inside out to reveal nothing in them, even though he was carrying his passport, wallet and cell phone.

"Call it reverse pickpocketing," Copperfield told The Palm Beach Post for Wednesday's editions.

Copperfield read the license plate number of the car to an assistant while she called 911, the report said.

Four teenagers were arrested and charged with armed robbery. They were held without bond, police said. The women's property was recovered.

So, these girls had over $700 US (depending on the Euro exchange rate) on them. He expects us to believe they were "assistants"...?

What do you carry when you travel? Nickles and dimes? A few hundred dollars does not warrant your insult.

Hey, he's a great illusionist. I mean, he managed to create the illusion of being able to nab Claudia Schiffer, right?

He expects us to believe they were "assistants"...? More like hookers.....allegedly.

If you have ever seen Copperfield's show, you would see that his "assistants" all look like super models, not hookers and they have to be very well trained and talented to help pull off the illusions. That equals good pay!

Many years ago when taking my kids to see one of his shows, we ran into him near the theater walking back from dinner with "2 assistants." My little girls had a major crush on him and he was very nice to them and promised autographed pictures for them after the show. I was deeply impressed with the assistants. :`))

I'm surprised he isn't accompanied by some kind of security.

Assistant described the thugs are "urban like?" She must be a racist!!

yes the old "the long leg hides the small action" rule. Though really hot chicks you can throw on stage as a distraction are a dime a dozen, hot chicks that can fit themselves in the tiny little basket of a metamorphosis trick in the 10 seconds they have before the curtain drops tend to be a bit more pricey.

I always thought he was one of those Vegas Magic Queers but I guess i was mistaken.
To bad he was Zigfried and Roy, he could have had his "Giant White Tigeeeer" attack the toughs

What do you carry when you travel?

Plastic, so I don't get pickpocketed and have one concise report for travel expenses, if it's business. If I do lose it or have it stolen, I can cancel the card.

mr. stone and mr. wood were walking down the street when a pretty girl approached. wood turned to stone, stone to wood, and the girl turned into a drugstore.

...to[o] bad he couldnt pull a gun out of his hat.

He probably had one of those magician's prop guns. You know, the kind that extends a cloth banner with the word "Bang!" on it. But he knew the adage, "Don't bring a 'magician's prop gun to a gun fight.'"

He left his "Penn & Teller" penetrating [decks of] cards in his other pants.

I've got a better one. I worked as a waiter and had several of my customers turn into buttholes.

"to bad he couldnt pull a gun out of his hat. Then the taxpayers would'nt have to spend so much money keeping them locked up for years on end"

More likely he'll be arrested for failing to provide what they wanted when he actually could have.

THAT'S nothing. The other day I was driving down the interstate and turned into a gas station.

I was on a trip with my wife last year. While we were driving down the road, she put her hand on my knee and I turned into a motel.

He's a good magician. He can even do card tricks over the internet!

Oh, man - that is one pathetically lame card trick.

Yeah, but the overseas ATM and currency exchange fees aren't much better.
