"Then why has the White House been saying for a couple of years now that their WMD intel was botched?"
OK. How many Americans will sit through a few hour talk where GWB or someone in his administration read all the translated Iraqi documents we are finding in the Harmony Database that indicate much of what Powell and others said from day one.
And how many TV networks would give him the time to have someone present a full blown slide show showing all the details we now know as being factual. It would take well over an hour just to start to educated the American public, as to what we knew and now additionally know about his short/intermediate/long term goals to manufacture various type wmds.
Granted it is extremely frustrating for many of us who have been following this stuff since day one.

No matter what the subject...the answer to that question is pretty near zero.

That no one really knew what was going on was symbolized by the widespread credence in the wartime nonsense spouted by the Iraqi minister of information (mockingly dubbed Baghdad Bob by Western reporters) as he regaled the world with glowing accounts of Iraqi victories; from the point of view of Iraqs leaders, Baghdad Bob was largely reporting what they were hearing from the front. A militia commander confessed to being absolutely astonished on encountering an American tank in Baghdad.![](http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/Abrams_Pics/M1A1-Bagdad-RunningOver-02.jpg)

And that is what the demorats and L/MSM calculate on, as you well understand.

That is such a true statement but few outside of the media understand just how true it is...and how little Americans care. The downward financial news regarding some MSM outlets is heartening though. Maybe people are starting to get it.

Sort of a catch-22, Yes, you're probably right. And it's not just the people who are his underlings but all of their families. It's unbelievable to me what some people will do for prestige and power.

1) Sada
2) Iraqi Foreign Minister, who confirmed WMDs
3) Trace elements of WMDs reported and NEVER DENIED during the invasion, including water samples of Tigris, etc.
4) All the intel agencies of EVERY nation on earth saying he had them, plus Jordan's king and Egypt's president saying he had them.
5) Iraq Study Group admitting they saw all the "paraphrenalia" of WMD manufacturing.
6) Pentagon-released records which make clear the "special weapons."
7) Iraqi generals trained to use these weapons and expecting to use them.
8) Thousands of chem/bio suits found among stuff taken from Iraqi positions.
and on and on.

The Iraqi military was quite confused as well about whether there was WMD.
I believe they did have a nuclear program at least in the early 2000s, but the success of that program is very unlikely.
They may have had some chemical weapons removed from the country, however.

Perhaps removed by al qaeda as part of the nonaggression pact with Saddam.

We can only hope. One group that understands it very very well are all politicians, both local/state/federal. They all know very well how the L/MSM will always take the side of the left.

"Why do they apparantly believe there were no WMD after all?" Because further intel reviews after the President's SUA told our intel community that Vlad Putin's henchghouls removed them to Russia ans Syria and the Baaka Valley. What was left in Iraq was kept even from the Ruskies and we still haven't found all of that.

Or just never report the story at all. The media bias can be bad in how they report something, but it is worse in what they choose not to report.

Your right - all we have to do is turn over a bunch of rocks in Syria and we'll find them.

If you want to know what was so important to them, read the CIA analyst Charles Duelfer's report about WMDs. If he's right, then this is actually such a sad war that our soldiers and the Iraqi people are dying because of misperceptions built on lies. Here's a different take on the whole thing from (of all places) the liberal mecca of San Francisco. Turns out the critics of the war might have been right but not in the way they thought they were. Good food for thought anyway (if you're open minded enough to finally stop looking for WMDs that aren't there, probably not in Syria either).

Dude, you're new here and probably a democrat. The real point of being in Iraq is to kill as many terrorists over there rather than to have them try to kill us over here. WMD's probably did exist and that is my opinion against your opinion. That was never the main premise for going in for anyone. We are really putting our boots on their throats pure and simple.
