Five black teen girls, convicted of a notorious Brooklyn hate crime, were spared jail after the mothers of the six white beating victims urged compassion for the culprits - citing the teachings of Nelson Mandela, The Post has learned.
The forgiving moms wrote a touching letter to Family Court Judge Stewart Weinstein, asking him to reduce the sentence for the five convicted of assaulting their daughters in Marine Park.
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world," the mothers wrote, quoting the African leader Mandela in the letter, dated Feb. 28.
Instead of locking the marauding minors away, the moms suggested Weinstein make them attend classes on racial diversity and require the wayward girls to share their new knowledge with other kids.

These moms don't live on the Upper West Side,do they?
There should not be an extra penalty for the race of the victim, white in this case, black in others - but street crime needs more than a slap on the wrist.
If they had beaten up a group of gays there would be no mercy.
"We're Christians, and as Christians we're taught to forgive and to try to turn something negative into something positive," said Edith, mother of the most seriously injured girl."
Ughhh... Im a Christian too, but, had my daughters been one of those 5 girls that had been beaten, my letter would have been quite opposite of the one they wrote. I believe in forgiveness, but also believe in paying the piper when you do wrong.

My six year old son learned this in school, and now he calls his brothers, himself, me and my wife "white crackers." It's pretty funny coming from a six year old white kid, but I'm thinking of having him charged with a hate crime, anyway.
This will come back to haunt someone.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. You can only learn if you want to learn. Learning means bowing down to Whitey.
One wonders how some people think.
Maybe one of these girls will embrace this second chance. With divine intervention, maybe two of them will. But these mom's have probably just created new victims by intervening and helping to turn these little hoodlums back loose on the public.
So now the assailants are free to go off and assault or perhaps kill some more victims. Just great.
Be that as it may, being punished for your actions is more powerful and a definite learning experience!
Probably, and also the product of some serious PC mis-education. I mean quoting Nelson Mandela, an old Communist terrorist ??? He ought to still be in jail, with the infamous Winnie, who introduced "necklacing" to the world. Unbelievable!

Four suspects and one juvenile all admit to their role in the beating of and MGM Grand employee, according to a police report released on Tuesday.
Demarcus Smith, 18, was arrested in connection to the attack on an MGM Grand employee.
Daryle Williams, 18, was the first suspect arrested in connection to a "swarm" attack at the MGM Grand.
Four suspects and one juvenile all admit to their role in the beating of and MGM Grand employee, according to a police report released on Tuesday.
As police continue their investigation, seven arrests have been made in response to the April 15 attack outside of the MGM Grand.
Las Vegas Metro Police say they are looking into whether the beating was race related, and Clark County District Attorney David Rogers said that the attacks "were senseless."
The police report gives insight into what happened that night through interviews with the suspects including DeMarcus Smith.
The report said:
"He picks out himself...you see him brutally beat the victim with upper cuts and hits to the face and body. It is seen that DeMarcus then stomps on the victim while he's on the ground in the fetal position literally jumping up and down on him in the head, face, feet, and the torso of the victim."
Cimarron Memorial senior As'ryen Brown also admitted to being one of the attackers.
"Brown gave a detailed statement of his involvement in the incident stating that during the beating he stood in the back of the landscape..."
The report also said that he chased after the victim and that's when he and another suspect, Avery Slocome, beat the man with their belts.
"Slocome stripped off a white plastic belt used to hold up his pants. Slocome used this belt to whip [the victim] on his back four or five times."
Both Slocome and Brown turned themselves in to police over the weekend. The police report raises another point:
"It should also be noted that all of the victims in every event were all white. I asked if it was for fun. They stated no. They could give me no legitimate reason other than that I could figure that this is a hate crime."
Police say they are looking into the possibility of it being a hate crime, but District Attorney David Roger says in time the truth will come out.
"If there is sufficient evidence to prove its a hate crime -- we'll charge that as well," Rogers said.
Rogers also says charges will be filed as soon as the investigation is finished.
