THE ULTIMATE COMPROMISE ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Free Republic | 04-23-2006 | EEE

Posted on 04/24/2006 11:00:00 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

Give the illegals amnesty after a 5-year probationary period, whereas if they commit a felony or two misdemeanors they are immediately deported, make them take mandatory TB and other immunizations and HIV tests within 60 days (out of their own pocket), in that 5-year period they must sign up for a digitized, biometric federal ID card and without this card they cannot obtain employment. Must carry automobile insurance. Employers are fined $25,000 a day if the (formerly) illegals don't present this ID at the time of hire. Make English the official language and end bilingual ballots and in taxpayer-funded education, enact a 10% federal surtax on wire transfers, and make them sign a sworn notarized statement that they pledge their allegiance to the U.S. (This will weed out the La Raza groupies and those who really want to stay here and work). There would be no guest-worker programs, none.

After that, immediately dispatch the Army to temporarily defend the border until a 30 foot concrete and steel wall with guardtowers is built. Increase funding, weapons, training, and pay for the Border Patrol, give them shoot-on-sight orders, and enact a 25-year moratorium on all immigration from Latin American nations. SCOTUS would review the citizenship provision in the Constitution to discourage anchor babies.

Because it's time to get real on this issue, FReepers. Bush has his mind made up, he's stubborn, he wants illegals in the country, the globalists, corporate fat-cats, and Rockefellers have hijacked the GOP, and tossing away a vote for the Constitution Party is not an option when the stinking Dems are right around the corner to make the damage even worse. We must continue to advocate for strong border security and do what JimRob says and keep the heat on Republicans - but we must also be realistic that there are illegals here - maybe they're a small percentage but they're here nevertheless - that have been in the U.S. for years and have really worked hard and have raised families. And as I said - the MS-13 gangbangers and La Raza folks would be smoked out and leave on their own because they have no interest in assimilating in America.

The court changes its mind all the time.

All we need to do is challenge it.

The Senate, House and White House are seriously confused about what is at issue and what is at stake here.

The issue of a guest worker program is completely separate from the issue of illegal aliens.

We have a guest worker program. It may need to be reformed but illegal aliens are those who have not applied to be guest workers. There are 11 million of them. (or more) The only thing needing reform now concerns illegal aliens and border security. We need to enforce the existing laws respecting the presence and employment of illegal aliens and border security.

Border security is the number one problem in this debate. The flood of illegal aliens is a major factor in relation to our lack of border security but it is only one factor. There is also a matter of national security in a time of war and in an age when terrorists have set their sights on inflicting mass destruction on our society.

After the issues of border security and millions of illegal foreign nationals on our soil the matter of guest workers is very small. Until the first two problems are thoroughly and firmly addressed the guest worker issue should not even be discussed.

Immigration and a guest worker program are separate issues from the above.

The President the Senate and the House need to get that message with unambiguous resolve.

Secure the border!

Crack down on employers!
(The dog-and-pony show catch-and-release won't cut it either.)

No anchor babies!

Deport illegal aliens.
(Not mass deportation, deportation on contact. Is it too much to expect taxpayer funded government authorities to enforce the laws on the books?

Bring in immigrants who have been waiting for years with papers in hand!

Nothing else will do.

Now is the time to put the pressure on!

"According to this new bill that's tied up in the Senate, illegal immigrants who can prove they've been here for two years would be allowed to stay. So follow the logic here. If you can prove you broke the current law for two years, you've protected under the new law." --Jay Leno

I work with a nurse who's son is a Border Agent in California. If the border agents are shot at, they are not allowed to shoot back. I guess all they can do is ask politely, "please don't do that anymore."

Yes. And have you noticed that every new law is a convoluted, mess.

Basically it comes down to if it's Tuesday and raining for only half the day, the illegals who came here 5 years and 10 days ago can refer to the law made for Sundays that snow all day long, except for one hour, if that hour is between the hours of 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm. If it snows during those hours, please refer to restrictions for days that the temperature reaches 85 degrees between the months of December and April in the cities next to the Canadian border of South Dakota.

One gets right cross-eyed after reading the new legislation passed by modern Congress critters.

You'd think the lawyers would love this! But once again the hard working US citizen would have to pay for the court costs through more taxes.

How'd we get into this mess?

No form of "guest worker" program will work. If illegals are hired because they will work for less than minimum (or prevailing) wage, then "regularizing" their status will make them unattractive to employers since they will be more clearly subject to employee protections. The businesses will just hire more illegals and dump these "guest workers."

BINGO!

The new guest workers would not want the low paying jobs anyway once they were legal to work, they will move into other segments of the workforce. With the border still open...more illegals will come in. What kind of solution is that?

The other issue no one is reporting, before this all made it to the news, groups supporting the illegals made the statement that illegals would not participate in a worker program, will not report and sign up. The reason is they believe it would make it easier to deport them. Many are afraid they would not pass the background check or other parts of the process. Illegals themselves are holding out for citizenship.

Border Patrol are actually told to hide. Isn't that great?

An unmanned drone used for border security crashed in Arizona this morning and my first reaction is that it was likely shot down by smugglers.

Some people won't be happy until we just open up the border and let EVERYONE in, until this country looks as bleak as the rest of the world.

I got a better idea: let's just enforce the old laws and deport these people.

My proposal doesn't call for new laws and actually strengthens existing ones.

We don't need a new law.

What is there to "compromise"? These people (who are breaking the law) want to stay.

I guess we can cut them all in half and send part back to their native country....

Again, my proposal doesn't call for new laws.

There are illegals who have been here in this country for years and never bothered anyone. How are you going to send them back? My proposal is a "time for choosing." Illegals who really want to achieve the American dream can do so after a 5 year probationary period and after they meet stringent requirements. Illegals who want to take back the Southwest, want to gangbang, believe that CA is theirs, etc. would be smoked out and deported.

There's FR, and there's political reality in Washington. One form or another, a guest worker plan or an amnesty is going to be part of any immigration package. Better to give illegals amnesty after a probationary period, make them do what I describe, and shut the door on future immigration from Latin American nations, than to have a guest-worker program that'll do more harm than good.

Demand $10,000 fines for business that employ illegal employees.

Businesses would automatically comply with the law under my proposal. They would be fined if they don't accept (formerly) illegals who must carry a biometric federal ID card for employment & during their probationary period.

Demand an end to ALL government benifit$ to illegal aliens. This includes primary/secondary education, college tuition, medicare, medicaid, emergency hospital treatment.

Already addressed. Illegals would be forced to become taxpayers, thereby contributing to the public healthcare systems.

Demand a wall on the southern border first; northern wall second. If entire towns must be relocated, tough tortillas.

Already addressed - a wall would be immediately built.

End "anchor baby" status for all illegals, retroactive to 1995.

Not realistic. The babies didn't ask to come here. End the anchor baby status once my proposal becomes law.

More like a surrender.

What surrender? My proposal calls for a 25-year moratorium on ALL immigration from Latin American nations. A wall would be instantly erected. There'd be no more bi-lingual ballots or illegals getting gov't freebies.

Illegals who really want to remain here would have to meet strict requirements as outlined and be on a probationary period. The La Raza/MS-13 illegals would be smoked out and deported. You think Latino gangbangers are going to swear their allegiance to the U.S. and learn English? They'll have no choice but to go home.

My thoughts...

This has been going on so long, and is so entrenched, that we are all going to have to give up something to really clean it up. There's just no way out around it, there's been a blind eye to the problem for far too long.

1. End anchor babies, period. End chaining immigration status to those here already. Immigration should be a one to one proposition, just because Carlos gets in, does not mean his aunts and uncles do. Citizenship should be treasured and worked for, not just given away.

2. Fine companies that hire illegals, and if they get caught a second time, revoke business licenses, and jail owners.

3. Tax and monitor funds going over the border, and correlate that data with W2's, lack of tax accounts for anything over $5,000 in a year's time is subject to investigation. Banking laws must be looked at and modified to help track illegals, without intruding on citizens privacy. (That's a tough one)

4. Home/apartment rental/ownership must require valid, verified citizenship somewhere, and foreigners must provide visas and green cards and proof of employment.

5. Driver's licenses WILL be in English, and English ONLY.

6. Voter materials and ballots will be in ENGLISH and ENGLISH ONLY. You must have a working knowledge of spoken and written English to become a citizen, anyway, so this is NOT a hardship. (Kills any "illegal voter block", which means politicians have no reason to fight to protect illegals)

7. The Border Patrol MUST be given the right to defend themselves, and use force if necessary. The Army/State Militia should and could be used to patrol. Any attack on border agents/military/police while crossing the border WILL be met with deadly force.

8. Hospitals must be allowed to triage patients and refuse treatement to minor cases like colds and flu, services should be cash first if you cannot prove citizenship that can be verified (tourists will have their passports), and they are allowed to ask for proof of citizenship, and to call the authorities for illegals.

9. Local municipalities must be allowed to arrest, hold, and arrange for departation of illegals.

10. Any arrest, regardless of conviction, will start the deportation process if proof of citizenship cannot be proven. Conviction will result in that person being banned permamently for citizenship. Misdemeanors by illegals get deported, felonies get incarcerated, and deported upon release, home country is billed for the keep of the prisoner.

11. Schools should end English As A Second language programs, and teach in English. A working knowledge of English will be required to attend. If a LEGAL immigrant child cannot read or speak, they can be tutored or taught in private schools until they can keep up. Legal adults will be required to learn as part of becoming a citizen, the schools are already available.

12. Colleges will no longer give illegals cheaper tution, grants, aid, or allow them to attend. Citizenship, verifiable, must be given to attend, and visas MUST be in order and followed up on if they expire, or the student is deported. Classes will be taught in English.

13. Money earmarked by the Federal Governement for this issue must be spent to swell the ranks of the Border Patrol and the immigration officals to monitor, investigate, and deport illegals. The military can be hired to transport them, and the Feds can match dollars to states to fund programs to enforce immigration law. Every effort must be made to strengthen and streamline the whole process, from investigation, to processing, to actual transport of the deported. Those deported need to be recorded, and fingerprints and mug shots need to be available in a nation-wide database available to ALL law enforcement, from the beat cop pulling over a speeding illegal, to customs officers in airports, ports, and rail stations.

Clearly, life here must be impossible if not highly uncomfortable and costly, our borders must be closed and defended, and deportation must happen on a large scale. Yes, it will be ugly, expensive, and we'll be attacked by the world for being mean. So what. It needs to be done, and we'll all have to make changes and sacrifice, and harden our hearts to the guilt-trips. We have to do these things to survive. We can also use the efforts and changes to help find terror suspects, criminals, and provide employment across the country for a wide variety of positions.

How can we deport 11 million illegals? Start with the first one, and keep going.

Few of your proposed provisions will be strictly enforced. People who are "too poor" to pay fines or to pay for immunizations will not be deported. Also, some will always use the argument that these poor people did not comply with the laws because they do not understand English and they were too frightened of government officials, blah blah blah. You get the picture. These stipulations for becoming citizens will be ignored just like the present laws. What will happen is that most will not become citizens (who really didn't want it any way) but they will still be here. Everything will stay the same.
