"Bush polls have fallen to a new low," shout the newspaper headlines or the news anchors on television. "President Bush and Congress have reached their lowest numbers yet," they continue, trying to speculate whether this is caused by the high gasoline prices, the current economy, or the war in Iraq.
This is strange since there is good news, mostly hidden by the media, about all three.
1. Recently, the U.S. Energy Department announced the results of a land survey: "We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth. Here are the official estimates:

2. Our economy is at its best today with unemployment at its lowest in decades and with three million new jobs added!
snip
3. We are winning the war in Iraq and, as I write this, Jawad al-Maliki, an experienced political operator and advocate for Iraq's Shiite Muslims, has won the approval

Anti-Bush information also pours into our homes from the news on NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and even Fox News. The latter says that it is fair and balanced, implying that it gives you news from both the left and right political wings. But if TV news is to be balanced, should we not have at least one TV network that tells us only the truth about our country without two commentators spinning in two different directions? Don't we get enough opinion, generally slanted to the Left, from all the other networks?

Polls always reflect not what people think but rather how they react to the news they see and hear every day beamed or tossed into their homes by both television and print.

Folks are afraid to be called racist.
Many here on FR are Mexican descended themselves. They are allied with their kinsmen.
Identity is a strong pull for most folks except white Americans
No. You will be responsible for handing the Democrats congress. Then sit back and watch your taxes go up and prepare for more terrorist attacks while government hand-outs for everybody (not just illegal immigrants) skyrocket.
Perceived fuel scarcity probably causes the biggest increase in fuel prices.
Spread the word that fuel supplies will be limited and, voila, the the prices shoot up. Doesn't matter whether the stories are true. I'm sure that the libs are happy to pass along any scare stories that they think they can get away with.
Everyone wants a full tank of gas in their car if they are afraid they won't be able to get gas or if they are afraid the price will go up.
When everyone insists on a full tank, a "shortage" is created. I saw what panic did 2-3 decades ago.
Tuesday, 19 September, 2000, 17:05 GMT 18:05 UK Ration warning over fuel panic
Petrol may have to be rationed if motorists continue to panic buy, oil companies have warned.Unfounded rumours that blockades were about to be reintroduced caused huge queues at garages around the UK. The police, the government and oil firms appealed for calm.
The rumours, which started in South Wales, have spread rapidly to other parts of the country, leading to a warning from the Petrol Retailers Association that the situation could become "extremely serious". [snip]
The panic buying began when an inaccurate report on a local radio station in South Wales, Red Dragon FM, on Monday, said fuel protesters were about to restart their action.
BP warned that if the panic buying continued, the 46 sites previously designated for emergency only might once again have to be closed to the public.
Panic about fuel supplies leads to long lines in Britain in 2000.

How so? Tell me exactly, how does voting for Republicans hand the Dems the Congress? Can't wait to see how you spin out of this one.
Thank you for your comments
What is truly fascinating to observe on FR these days, is all those people who are in total denial about the lack of conservative leadership we've received from this GOP President and Congress on domestic issues. After Clinton, we all had high hopes for Bush to get America back to more of the Reagan model of conservative governance. We expected sound and solid leadership from our elected officials and not for our leaders to make the same mistakes of the past all over again. After 5-1/2 years its quite obvious Bush, Cheney, Hastert, Frist and the rest of the GOP majority have dropped the ball on issue, after issue, after issue. Pathetic!
Even though the country was in a recession, property values were decreasing and it seemed like everyone was getting downsized, the reneging on the tax pledge was the big one for me. Nothing else (the deficit, proposed NAFTA and loss of jobs ) Ross Perot said would have resonated with the voters if the taxes had stayed the same.
Also Bush was suffering from a chronic ailment and looked sickly and lethargic in the debates, especially the last one. Voters enjoy voting for a person who appears able to live out the term.
Very cute..another third party advocate. Dream on. All the infighting is just over what will be the main issues in November. Sit back and relax..the GOP ain't going anywhere and immigration is pulling up the rear end of the the elephant's arse.
you make a good point, mdbob.
---You know, there ARE other problems in this country.
I hope you all are happy after you all sit home and elect Democrats.---
Do you let strangers come into your home univited and let them make themselves to home, then critisize members of your own family when they complain about the situation?
Thanks for your post. There are more of us of your view than the naysayers would like us to believe.
"after you all sit home"
I don't believe anyone will sit home. I believe they (@30%) will be out voting third party. At least, that's what the FR poll showed,I think.
>>And I don't understand why the president is taking all the heat for the immigration problem. What about the past presidents who have done nothing to address it? What about a congress that has done nothing about it for decades?<<
9/11 should have been a wake up call to tighten the borders. It wasn't, at least for the President.
