Breaking on CNN, Tony plans to take the job at the White House.

The first thing I would do is ask you to define what "conservative" means to you. Then, depending on your answer, I'd have a better sense of what is and is not possible as regards discussing the question with you.
As a starting point, I would suggest you not lose sight of the fact that the nation is more than the President. Political issues are more than the President. Presidents come and go, but the nation's bread and butter and security issues remain. The two major political parties have dominated our politics for 146 years. There is no viable alternative for those who want a seat at the decision-making table, and that fact is not likely to change anytime in the foreseeable future.
You are discouraged because you foolishly thought that things would change radically with the proper people in power.
Things have changed as much as possible given the state of the American mass mind. You think you are the only one disappointed in the festivities of late? Pshaw.
Snap out of it, and get back to work, we need you more than ever.
I believe that Tony Snow would have interrupted this thread by now if he was not going to take the job so I proceed from there. The fact that Tony has been given the job of press secretary seems to me to be a response to the criticism that the White House is unresponsive to lies and events that need immediate correction. Scott did the job required and a new face sets a new tone and a new approach that is undoubtedly long overdue. The 'base' is right here on this thread and most of us are with President Bush and urge him on to stay strong and not buckle to those who undermine him 24/7. The Iran and Syria situation is in a diplomatic phase and how on earth can anybody expect to do anything about the French when they don't know whether to scratch their watches or wind their behinds? Russia only knows to play with fire so they are predictable in backstabbing. I think that each day the citizens of this country awake and go about their business, they can thank God and President George Bush for their continued freedom. Buck up. No need to be so discouraged.
Border thread junkies make every thread a border thread.
Even the 24 thread wouldn't be safe, but Jack won't let them in there.
And sometimes FR is a cult of "I'm more conservative than you so I'm better than you" whack jobs. People around here can be incredibly obnoxious.
WALTER PINCUS is on CSpan-2 replay of today's Washington Journal ... NOW. He's a real knowitall .. was my impression from what I caught earlier.
**a schedule of every white house press conference**
Try this:

I will try to check in tomorrow.
**PRESS CORE.**
Don't you mean Press Corps?
I ain't got anything to say....just adding my yammer to the chorus.
You know why he can't get stuff done? Because, he absolutely is alone up there. All of the "conservatives" have chosen to destroy the man because they can each find an issue he does not handle to their liking.
All of our elite "elected GOP congress members" are too busy playing their power games and pandering to the "friends" on the other side to be bothered supporting their president.
All of the "public" are ignorant minions of the media that learn by being told what to think or, if conservative, they don't fight with him - the expect him to do all of it and they just complain giving no support. They can't abide having to speak up and join the fight - they expect him to fight for them. And, so they complain and join in the masses destroying the man.
So, you get what you worked daily to get - an ineffective president, trying all by himself to run a war, fight the liberals, fight the shadow government, defend himself from impeachment, and counter the liberal media intent on destroying him. Just name one man who could get anything done with absolutely everybody against him?
Where were you when you were needed to fight with him? I'll bet - you were plugging along post after post complaining how he just was not good enough.
So, now you get to worry about who will do better than George Bush at fighting the whole world to try and run this country. You have done your part in destroying the man. It is now done - thanks to those like you and the rest of us not smart enough to figure a way to counter all the forces against a GOP president and the power of the anti-American/anti-GOP media.
Now, be happy with what you have achieved.
Yes...30 years and I'm giving up on them. They gave up on us. Congress is a mess.
We fought, we sent money, we called, we went door to door, we worked elections etc. and they now ignore us.
Bush has done many great things to for the conservative movement and Congress has let him down as well.
But come on, he's failed on some issues like caving to Kennedy on education (and still getting criticized for it), spending (one veto would be nice), illegal immigration, and the idea government is a tool for good.
I truly wanted to see the size of government rolled back but I also realize on every level it's getting bigger down to the cities.
And I agree about Soc Sec...he was the first to have the cajones to even grab the third rail and I will never blame him for nothing happening. That was a losing battle given the apathy of the people and the cowards in Congress. He is a brave man.
Maybe he should have said we were going to let Dubai take over the Soc Sec system and everyone would have gotten interested! lol
Again with the perjoratives. And WE'RE rude.
Maybe you sound like a Bush-basher because you said he's "blown it" and you've "given up on him." Those sound like clues to me. But if there's any support for him left in you, then of course I could be wrong, and it's just not coming across.
Now I'm really going to sleep.
Amen! Lord knows this forum is bombarded daily with immigration threads and there are always posters wanting to hijack threads having nothing to do with immigration.
good point...
being posted that late....maybe Tony is getting beauty sleep..
;-)
what's up with all the vitriol on this thread....
I am not understanding it......
:-) you go girl
I have babysitting duty also...MM....so I am off too!!
Hopefully, Tony can fill us all in tomorrow.
Good night!
Pincus: one of the important elements in the agency about this particular leak .. was that she was working for the IG at the time .. which is independent .. but they were investigating complaints about these "prisons" ... her leaking may have been premature. But she may have been concerned that it was being covered up ... and as a "whistleblower," took a risk releasing it ... (GAG!!!)
That's the spin: WHISTLEBLOWER
Press Whores?
;-)
