But back to the Mexicans in the apple orchard - what jobs are they taking - standing around doing nothing?

G'night, sleep tight if your conscience will allow it

The agenda of transforming the American culture into something only Zapata would love is not a conscience

God bless you..sleep well...you've earned it.

What makes you sure "the law" will be changed? And how will it be changed?

We are not taking child labor here anymore - I despise people who prey on the ignorance of others by using hyperbole like "slave wages" but then complaining about these "slaves" sending $20 billion to their home countries.

The only "sure" things are death and taxes. Normally, federal laws are changed through the U.S. Congress passing bills and the President signing said bills - see Schoolhouse Rock for more info.

I'm sure you read about that murder in Murfreesboro last week where the two Hispanic males with gang tats were robbing the store and when they boasted to kill the woman at the counter, another latin man asked them not to.

I remember reading a little bit about it.
18 years ago I worked a convenience store at night in a rough part of Knoxville alone. I wasn't looking for a permanent job so I did that. Now I wouldn't do it in the day time without help and a piece in my pocket. I carried back then but never felt I was in any real danger not even with the occasional PITB beer grabbers.

BTW I spent two weeks in Murfreesboro in 1984 while at the Commercial Truck Driving School off I-24 I think. It was a nice quiet town.

These slaves live in flop houses like three or four here in our housing track with 20 people to a room. They are truly being exploited by people like you and no it is not "hyperbole". They do it precisely so they can send their momma or poppa or wife and kids every cent they can, and per capita it is a small stipend. Meanwhile along with these poor souls we also are welcoming in those who will not 'settle' for your less than generous wage, they choose to earn their living through crime. Factor this ill-gotten gain in with the drug and coyote money and then you get to the $20 bill.
As for child labor, why would you be against that? Don't you realize that there are a lot of 11 to 14 yr olds coming up here to work under the table? I'm sure you must.

You tell me. Likely they were working in one of several nearby industrial parks. If they didn't work period they were on welfare. Or the orchard is a drop off point for illegals. There was enough room there to house quite a few.

I do not own slaves, so it is hyperbole - as for child labor laws, I have no problem with those. I guess we just draw the line in different places.

LOL nobody lives by me. Thankfully illegals would likely not find where I live otherwise my brush removers would disappear. They do work most Americans won't do also.

Perhaps this is hyperbole:

This is the brave new world for US workers?

Yup, that is hyperbole as it applies to Taco Bell (another Irvine-based business) or anyone who can send $50 or $100 back home to their families every month. Any more questions?

So it was okay for the growers to systematically abuse these illegal immigrants while they worked picking tomatoes? You did read that didn't you? This is just one grower who was 'caught'. It's not about Taco Bell, although they had the common sense to adopt a policy which would preclude use of products from abusive growers. These growers need to be fined and held accountable for not only their abusive working conditions, but also aiding and abetting illegal migration by breaking the law in hiring them.
