A few years back I felt safe in Oak Ridge at night. I shop at night but I watch my back in the store parking lots now. Stores that a few years ago didn't need security guards now have them.

You have stated before that you would like the illegals to become citizens. Do you think, once they become citizens, they would accept the low pay that you advocate?
Anyone who is caught before the law is changed should be prosecuted to the fullest extent under the law. Once the law is changed and they are citizens, I don't expect them to accept low wages, but then that's why I think Bush wants a Bracero-type program too.

Read my previous post. They are taking jobs here Americans will in fact do. Go to any convience store here with Western Union capabilities and you'll find them also. They'll be the ones wiring a fist full of cash back to Mexico or wherever. Then they leave in their brand new SUV's. In short they lower the area's standard of living by taking good jobs. If the gas prices stay up we're headed into a 1982 or worse type of recession likely by this fall.
Around this area in 1982 you could not get a part time job even at Mickey'D's unless your had friends who told you they were quiting. IOW there's going to be a lot of angry people.
I had great-grandparents who worked for the company store.. i.e., slave wages (From the age of 9 qne 10 years). You work for just enough to pay for the mattress you sleep on and the bit of food you need to sustain yourself. In any sense of human compassion it is recognized as 'slave wages'. (Basic subsistence - if you're lucky). I despise people who prey on the poverty and ignorance of others. Nevermind the harm they do to the American middle class by lowering the quality of life to a third world standard.
Of course I would hope that you would NOT do that, after all you were quite concerned that we taxpayers and churches subsidize the necessities of the illegal workers. You just don't seem to be too concerned about the obligations of their employers.
