A day in the life of President Bush (4/23/06): photos/news; Marines/sailors

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President Bush will spend much of his day with Marines and sailors, attending church and joining them for lunch at the base in Twentynine Palms, CA.

Last night in Indian Wells, near Palm Springs, GWB helped pull in nearly $2 million for the RNC at the Toscana Country Club. Tomorrow, after a speech on immigration in Orange County, the President heads for Las Vegas and a fundraiser for Nevada Congressman Jon Porter. From the podium, the President mentioned dignitaries in attendance such as Dug Sundheim, California Republican Party chairman; Bruce McPherson, Secretary of State; Sen. Chuck Poochigan, R-Fresno, a candidate running unopposed in the June Republican Primary for Attorney General; Steve Poizner, running unopposed for the Republican nomination for Insurance Commissioner and U.S. Reps. Connie Mack, R-FL, and Mary Bono, R-Palm Springs, who happen to be dating but were seated at different tables. In his remarks, the President highlighted the War on Terror and how students need to be prepared for the future.

After his lunch and visit with the Twentynine Palms base Marines and sailors, GWB is expected to spend the rest of the weekend at an undisclosed location in Rancho Mirage.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Over the past couple of days, the President spoke publicly on a number of issues -- too many to single out one quote. So I've linked to three important transcripts on the White House website. With these links at your disposal, you can read the transcripts at your convenience.

President Bush Discusses Advanced Transportation Technology in California

President Congratulates Iraqi Leadership on National Unity Government Agreement

Folks who have been following this presidency closely from the beginning know that President Bush has been trying to get Congress to pass a comprehensive energy bill ever since 2001. Here is a link to the President's Letter to the American People about his Advanced Energy Initiative, and a summary of the initiative. For those interested, the linked WhiteHouse.gov page also contains a link to download a .PDF copy of the complete Advanced Energy Initiative document. Other than cutting back on our driving and other uses of gasoline, we can't do much about the soaring costs of fuel in the short term. However, we can help the President ensure a more energy-secure future for us and our children and grandchildren. I urge all Dosers (active and lurking) to familarize themselves with the President's proposals, and to pressure your congressional representatives and senators to pass either the entire initiative or those portions of the proposals with which you agree.

What is it about Americans and chicken soup - I suppose it is the same as the traditional British drink of Beef Tea when one was ill.

I love the Santa Rosas..which is why our home abuts them (see my profile page, and look beyond the birdies!)

Oh, VERY cool. A roadrunner. They are such great fun. I love them.

This morning, I fantacised about seeing a herd of black Suburbans coming up our road, because we live a hundred yards from a well known local trailhead....didn't happen, though!

Sigh...the stories you could have told.

snow geese............. fantastic

They are. Canada geese fly into Salton Sea also, but in nowhere near the numbers of the snow geese.

It was so damned windy from about 6pm on, that I doubt he stuck his head outside...we sure as heck didn't. We've got downed palm fronds all over the streets this afternoon.

Did it rain? It rained very heavily, although for a short time, here in Torrance around 9:00pm or so. I loved it.

I think it's a Jewish tradition, snugs, and a very good one.

Nothing tastes quite so good as chicken soup when you're recovering from an illness.

MR Ohio made some for me last week when I was suffering from a nasty stomach virus. It was one of the only things I could tolerate.

(Ginger Ale or toast are also good).

Is "beef tea" beef broth or tea?

Oh........I forgot to tell you........we got an e-mail from daughter in England, and she used the word 'whilst'..........and I thought of you. It's a lovely word!

Those Marines and sailors are so young and good-looking, it makes me wish I was 19 again. Sigh.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for guys in uniform. I've been married to a retired AF guy for 42 years now. And 24 of those were when he was active duty.

Once that antibiotic gets in your system, you'll start feeling much better.

Roadrunner. Honest. They are a desert bird and yes, they really do run fast. Actually there are several species of roadrunners that live in the American southwest (perhaps elsewhere in desert climates).

It is difficult to believe it has been that long. We still have lots of fun and find just millions of things to talk about and laugh about. We've had to work at it, of course, but it was definitely worth working for.

If you can stand to gargle warm salt water that might help.
