i wonder if whites ae excluded from any sickle-cell anemia drug testing ?
I demand Caucasians in Sickle-Cell study groups.
The fact is, certain medical conditions and pathogens do indeed affect people differently on the basis of race. Are we going to sacrifice lives on the altar of PC?
For the race-baiters, the answer is an emphatic yes. This would not be the first time that these self-appointed 'advocates' have put their self-aggrandizement and creating a controversy there should be none far above the interests of those whom they profess to champion.
Aren't they curious why it works for some, and not others? Wouldn't that be a legitimate part of the testing process?
Do they test new erectile dysfunction drugs on women? Some people just need to be slapped.
Patient-specific medicine has arrived, and it is the future standard of care.
Virtually every new drug will be tested against genetic profiles (especially cancer drugs, but others as well).
Cozar instead of prinivil. Asians may develop a cough with prinivil, but not with cozar. White folks gobble both down like jellybeans.
And the big secret is that large numbers of drugs that are potentially very effective in humans have been discarded early in the research process because they failed the initial animal testing on mice, monkeys, and other lab animals when human testing would have shown them very effective. The puzzle is how to get around that roadblock. There are no good answers.
Plenty of women take ED drugs.
Viagra for women, more and more are turning to the impotence drug
Why can't they see that there is a difference between racial and racist?
I've known white people who stopped taking an ACE inhibitor because of unrelenting cough. It may be more prevalent in Asians, but is certainly not exclusive to them.
I've also treated many patients with angioedema (which can be life-threatening) caused by ACE inhibitors. Most of them have been black, but I've seen it in many white patients also.
P.S. I once took care of a white lady with sickle cell disease, on the same day I took care of a black guy with cystic fibrosis!
Figures I'd pick the wrong example. Do they test tamoxifen on men? Birth control pills on men? Did they test RU-486 on men?
Well, the article said that no research had been done with viagra with women, they were just prescribing it. It was from 1998, though.
I noticed in the discussion of ACE Inhibitors that Asian women have a 30% chance of developing the cough, while in men it is something like 7%.
Concerning white people with the cough, always remember appearances are deceiving. Never fail to ask your white patients taking ACE Inhibitors, who may or may not have a cough, if they are lactose intolerant too!
Cozaar is an angiotensin receptor blocker. Prinivil is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor.
Yes. The PC dogma is that the only difference between whites and blacks is skin color. To admit that there are significant biological and biochemical differences opens the door to too many questions that they do not want to deal with
The lady told me she carried a Mediterranean sickle cell variant. I forget what the black guy told me.
What is the lactose intolerance connection?
