So lemme see if I have this straight so far: We have Mary Mcarthy who was appointed by Clinton We have Sandy Berger who was appointed by Clinton We have the real Joe Wilson, who was appointed to some African nation and then Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council by Clinton We have Valerie Plame Joe Wilson's wife, who joined the CIA while Clinton was president and we have Dana Priestly who got her information from the aforesaid Mary Mcarthy, and we have William Goodfellow, husband of Dana Priestly who gets Joe Wilson speaking engagements. Tom Clancy eat your heart out. |
Selective Leaking
Tom Joscelyn brilliantly lays out a prior instance in which CIA agent Mary McCarthy, the leaker just fired from the CIA, entered the public record: her involvement in the bombing of al-Shifa, one of the targets in Sudan that the Clinton adminstration attacked in 1998.
http://www.instapundit.com/
TOM MAGUIRE: "The NY Times seems to think the political contributions of the sacked CIA officer are significant, but their investigative skills are apparently a bit rusty, since they are about $7,500 light in their reporting."
UPDATE: Lots of bloggers are jumping on this story: More here, here, and a big roundup here.
I'm pretty sure I know what the talk-radio folks will be talking about next week.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Still more here.

MARY MCCARTHY AND JOE WILSON?
Ace of Spades asks:
Did Mary McCarthy Approve Joe Wilson's Trip to Niger?
Curt at Flopping Aces points to a F/R commenter, Timeout, noting some interesting portfolio overlap:
Mark Levin weighs in.

CIA leaker fired
Washington Post journalist Dana Priest won a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on the CIA secret prisons story; in this interview the prisons are described as gulags and Priest seems to have no problem with it: Dana Priest on secret gulags, CIA and war. (Hat tip: Doss.)
Now that an EU investigation has found no evidence of illegal CIA action, will her Pulitzer be revokedsince the story for which it was awarded was false?
Dont hold your breath.
But this time the McCarthy is waving a list of known... patriots.

CIA FIRES OFFICER MARY McCARTHY OVER ALLEGED LEAK
This is an egregious crime. It was operational, not just classified info. She put lives in danger, c**t. She disclosed top secret information. Jail time is too kind. Think about it.
Piece of advise for the Bushies...............FIRE ANY ONE THAT WORKED UNDER THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION, I mean really.
Strata-sphere has the straight dope here, an incredible post actually.
The latest fired CIA employee is Mary McCarthy, (one of many to come, I understand, apparently the Department of Justice said they have DOZENS of leak investigations ongoing);
Until July 2001, she served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council (NSC) Staff, under both Presidents Clinton and Bush. More here hat tip x-dhimmi
Over at Lucianne, THE SECRET WAR AGAINST PRESIDENT BUSH
Excellent complete overview over at Flopping Aces here, and important read;
... Dana Priest, who also won the George Polk Award and a prize from the Overseas Press Club this week for her articles, declined to comment Friday. She apparently came to the defense of Richard Clarke once. If she is one in the same, this person has betrayed a lot of people with her actions. More here...and Flopping Aces points out, lest we not forget what Porter Goss said;
Porter Goss told the Senate that these leaks had damaged our intelligence gathering capability and in so doing our national security:

Wilsongate: Motive, Means, and Opportunity
From my files: Wilson (as Ambassador to Gabon) had/has connections to the Gabon Chief of State, Omar Bongo, who was the chief African ally of the French oil company TotalFinaElf, a major beneficiary of the Oil-for-Food bribes. Prior to the Iraq War, they had a contract with Saddam's regime worth an estimated 12.5 to 27.0 billion barrels of oil reserves. Also he had connections via the Middle East Institute and Rock Creek, both of which are Saudi controlled.
Wilson's wife Jacqueline was also apparently a lobbyist for Bongo and it seems Wilson was pretty chummy with Saddam's weapons buyer, having dinner with him on the eve that Kuwait was invaded in 1990. She is now an advisor to Bongo, her picture from a 2005 conference can be found here That makes it very clear that there are connections to oil-for-food. No wonder Wilson can afford his lifestyle.

Who is Mary McCarthy? [The Great One, Mark Levin, weighs in...]--Well, as of this morning (Saturday) most of the drive-by media don't care. They're fixated with the weather and gas prices and anything else that will divert the public's attention from the stunning revelation that a Sandy Berger crony has apparently been leaking top-secret information from her high post at the CIA.
The blogs are all over it. See
Ace of Spades HQ and follow the links. The bloggers are reporting that the WaPo is carrying a story in Sunday's edition indicating that the investigation by the FBI is widespread, and that Rockefeller and Durbin and their staffs will be asked to take polygraphs, and that reporters who published the leaks may be subject to prosecution.

Mary McCarthy Identified As CIA Leaker
The identity of the CIA leaker fired for passing classified information to Washington Post writer Dana Priest has been revealed.
The officer flunked a polygraph exam before being fired on Thursday and is now under investigation by the Justice Department, NBC has learned. Intelligence sources tell NBC News the accused officer, Mary McCarthy, worked in the CIA's inspector general's office and had worked for the National Security Council under the Clinton and and George W. Bush administrations.
The leak pertained to stories on the CIAs rumored secret prisons in Eastern Europe, sources told NBC. The information was allegedly provided to Dana Priest of the Washington Post, who wrote about CIA prisons in November and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize on Monday for her reporting.
Sources said the CIA believes McCarthy had more than a dozen unauthorized contacts with Priest. Information about subjects other than the prisons may have been leaked as well.
The sleuthing has begun ;
The report of the 9/11 Commission notes that the National Security staff reviewed the intelligence in April 2000 and concluded that the CIA's assessment of its intelligence on bin Laden and al-Shifa had been valid; the memo to Clinton on this was cosigned by Richard Clarke and Mary McCarthy, the NSC senior director for intelligence programs, who opposed the bombing of al-Shifa in 1998
Ace has pulled up the campaign contributions. No surprises there.

War, media and politics
One of today's big news items is the dismissal of a person at Central Intelligence for leaking classified material to Washington Post Pulitzer Prize winner Dana Priest. Pajamas Media has a really big blog roundup. Some of the choice items.
Captains Quarters: Plugging the Leak says: In From the Cold comments: Strata-sphere Big Lizard: Story on the leaker leaked to the press -- That's how ingrained the practice is. You have to leak about the leak.

Someone ought to tell John Kerry that Mary McCarthy didn't leak just once, but on numerous occasions. She was a serial leaker with a political bent. She was in effect a traitor. And if she can get away with it there will be no secret safe in the US Government. And, if the government had the will it would go after Dana Priest -- just to remind the media that we are at war.

I don't have time to read all that info right now. Just trying to skim through it a bit. I did notice that it said in one of the highlighted sections that Valerie Plame joined the CIA during Bubba's years. Not true. She joined in the 1980s while Reagan was president. When I see a glaring error like that, I wonder about the other information. I'm sure I'm not alone.It will sort out eventually, given so many people examining the stories. Thanks for looking. Updates will be posted.

A little more on L. Britt Snyder.
http://www.nationalreview.com/contributors/gaffney021402.shtml
CIA Whitewash
No way to run an investigation.
Frank J. Gaffney Jr. held senior positions in the Reagan Defense Department. He is currently the president of the Center for Security Policy.
February 14, 2002 9:10 a.m.
o much for a rigorous review of the policy and other failures that contributed to the U.S. intelligence community's inability to detect and prevent the deadly attacks of September 11. No sooner had members of the House and Senate intelligence committees decided that these problems required a comprehensive review a review that would almost certainly implicate CIA Director George Tenet for his role in implementing defective policies, if not in every case initiating them than they turned over its conduct to one of Tenet's most trusted subordinates: L. Britt Snyder.
This personnel decision sets the stage for a whitewash of epic proportions as if Sen. Sam Ervin had hired John Erlichman to run the Watergate investigation or Ken Lay's general counsel were tapped to run all the congressional investigations into the Enron debacle.
These invidious comparisons are hardly exaggerations. Britt Snyder was, until last year, the inspector general of the Tenet CIA. From 1997-98 he served as special counsel and adviser to Tenet. From 1989 to 1992, he was general counsel of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence when Tenet was its staff director. It is hard to imagine how such an individual could bring the sort of independence and objectivity to the task that the committee so clearly requires.
It is, moreover, unclear at this writing whether Snyder will be allowed to hire the rest of the staff charged with conducting this investigation. If so, it is entirely possible that none of those retained will be able or willing to find fault with the intelligence community's past direction, priorities, or conduct let alone that of the elected and appointed officials whose political and policy proclivities appear to have contributed to the Sept. 11 failure.
If the House and Senate intelligence committees are determined to give a complete pass to George Tenet and the direction he gave the community over the past five years, they might as well spare the taxpayer the expense of going through the motions of an investigation. If, on the other hand, they really do want to learn and apply the lessons of Sept. 11, they would be well advised to secure the services of those who have at least as much expertise in the field of intelligence as Snyder, but not his disabling baggage of past institutional and personal loyalties.

WOW, everyone should be passing this list of links around everywhere, far and wide, especially to news media and bloggers, commentators, etc. The MSM will have to be dragged along kicking and screaming and lying, but let's hope they can no longer ignore all of it.
Mega-kudos, what a superb link compilation, backhoe!! My oh my, it gets even more nauseating when you can view all the dirty players together. I suspect there is soooo much more to come, if only Porter Goss can keep the heat on and not allow the weasels to find cover. I'm still waiting to learn that Valerie Pflame and Joe Wilson are being prosecuted, but I'm not holding my breath.

Of course, even loathsome Joe and Valerie are just bit players in a drama involving numerous high-level Clintonistas in and out of government. I sure want to see Joe and Valerie knocked off their unearned pedestal, but we have bigger fish to fry such as Sandy Burglar and everyone around him, all of the Demagogues who have sponsored, defended, and enabled this type of behavior, etc.
