TAMPA - The political debate over Terri Schiavo's death is emerging as an issue in the 2006 election campaign.
Attorney General Charlie Crist told an audience in West Palm Beach on Thursday that as governor, he would have stayed out of the fight between Schiavo's husband and parents about whether to keep the brain-damaged woman alive with a feeding tube.
A 15-year legal battle appeared to be over last year when Congress, President Bush and Gov. Jeb Bush pressed to intervene legislatively to keep Schiavo alive. Ultimately, the courts sided with Schiavo's husband. She died of dehydration on March 31, 2005, after her feeding tube was removed.
"I am pro-life, and I respect life," Crist, a Republican candidate for governor, said at a gathering of the nonpartisan Forum Club of the Palm Beaches. "There are some decisions that ought to be left to God and family. Had I have been governor, I would have not done the same thing" as Bush.
In an interview, Crist minimized his differences with the governor.
Crist's Republican primary opponent, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher, stood with Gov. Bush last year in trying to pass legislation to keep the feeding tube in after courts had ordered it removed.

It sure looks to me like copy and paste. It was too full of misinformation to be the result of any actual research.
Look at the legal record. It's the truth and you know it. I could google search the opposite commetns and have similar results. People just can't handle the fact that there are people who are in this type of state and have no hope of recovery. Medical facts just seem to be too much of a truth when dealing with the brain dead.
How do you know all these illegals are criminals? Immigration law is civil law, not criminal. And approximately 2/3rds of the illegals are border jumpers, which is a misdemeanor. The rest are visa overstays, which is not a crime. Don't get me wrong, I'm dead against any breaks for anyone out of status or in the country illegally, but please make sure you know the basic details of immigration law. Jeb has me really upset about the illegal issue since he came out supporting his brother's amnesty program. But at least illegals cannot get drivers liscences in FL. The 9/11 hijackers got their ID in FL and that embarrassed the state into taking corrective measures.
Maybe you didn't notice the disrupting came from just a tiny few on the other side, the paid left wingers, and odd balls. It is the left wing death culture that says the things you say and us big C conservatives who are pro-life and against such a murder.
In case you or any other viewers want to find out what really happened to Terri, I invite you to look at the plethora of real evidence and facts that support our contention that state sponsored murder of an innocent is wrong.
Terri was on the road to recovery, learning to walk, communicate, when Michael won his malpractice suit. Hardly PVS, this picture being a couple years after the incident, as her twelve broken bones healed... The audio explains a lot.

I'm not one of those people. I can handle that there are people with brain injuries and other disabilities. I can handle that some of them will always have those disabilities. Can you handle that those people exist, or do you want my government corrupted into helping you get rid of them?
And why did the Aliens not step in and fly Terri to Moonbatia for that emergency brain regeneration to make every thing alrighty?
Step away from the crack pipe.
Nothing is too wild for the The Whole World Murdered Terri crowd.
I strongly recommend that you read Martin Katz's statement in "The American Thinker," March 29, 2005. It has also been posted on FR.
I live in North Saint Pete and drive by that hospice to my office on Starkey Rd. on most days and what you state, I can attest to as fact. We are accustomed to tourists here and generally treat them with a great deal of deference. These "protesters" who more resembled circus sideshow freaks did stretch the patience of many local residents and business's. The carnival atmosphere among the garishly attired group was unmistakable as they huddled as close to the cameras as they could get. Jugglers and unicyclists made appearances, as did some girl, who every afternoon would be standing at the corner in what looked like a bloody wedding dress. And what conservative protest would be complete without Jesse Jackson and Randall Terry showing up and taking center stage.
Terri was brain dead for years. Her brain was liquified. There was no recovery possible. Period. Her parents hired quacks, violated court orders and manipulated evidence. Bush, amongst others, tries to score political point by trying to change the legal system without regards for long term consequences. I, and many other big C conservatives, were very relieved that none of those intrusive changes were implemented and are planning on avoiding any politician that supported such draconian measures to the point of actively supporting their opponents.
Amen.
And links to the supportive facts for those statements can be found in this post.
The federal courts do not belong in family matters and politicians should not be in the business of passing laws for only one individual. It's not the business of government.
Such a simple statement of conservative principal should never need to be defended on a conservative website.
The voters here will take care of the politicians involved and that's the way it should be.
I do think we the voters of Pinellas County sent the proper message to the GOP when we re-elected Judge Greer to his position as Judge in the middle of this staged Schiavo "crisis" with over 70% of the vote. As you said, most of us who live here and followed the local press coverage of Terri Schiavo from 1990 on wondered what moon-bat planet these latecomers to the story came from. Planet Hollyweird?
I gather that you are for the rule of law. Since you are so familiar with this case, did it ever occur to you that you had a non-termimal patient down there in a hospice for 5 years right in your own backyard? Could you refresh us on the rules of Medicare payments to hospices concerning prognosis and length of stay?
Sure, everybody is a conservative these days : ) Big C Conservatives video.
Big C communists support the culture of death? Who'd of thunk it? I mean, torturing disabled people to death is what big C conservatism is all about, right? And here we have big C communists agreeing with it. It's a small world, after all. Everybody sing!
Yes, and I think it was a horrible thing to happen to anyone....but no worse, and perhaps more merciful than to linger on for many years in a state of suffering.
Totally agree.
I enjoyed reading your informative post.
