I've lived 2 blocks from the hospice where all this has transpired for over 11 years and most people here don't know what they are talking about. The protesters at the hospice were the most arrogant, in-your-face, disruptive people I've ever encountered and I have no use for them. They closed a local school. They shut down neighborhood businesses and then harassed these businesses for opening on Sundays to make up for the lost work that the protestors caused. These people were disgusting by wearing their self righteousness on their sleeves and didn't care who they gave problems to and had no respect for other members of the community. They could not protest without dragging everyone down to their visceral level.

I live in North Saint Pete and drive by that hospice to my office on Starkey Rd. on most days and what you state, I can attest to as fact. We are accustomed to tourists here and generally treat them with a great deal of deference. These "protesters" who more resembled circus sideshow freaks did stretch the patience of many local residents and business's. The carnival atmosphere among the garishly attired group was unmistakable as they huddled as close to the cameras as they could get. Jugglers and unicyclists made appearances, as did some girl, who every afternoon would be standing at the corner in what looked like a bloody wedding dress. And what conservative protest would be complete without Jesse Jackson and Randall Terry showing up and taking center stage.

Terri was brain dead for years. Her brain was liquified. There was no recovery possible. Period. Her parents hired quacks, violated court orders and manipulated evidence. Bush, amongst others, tries to score political point by trying to change the legal system without regards for long term consequences. I, and many other big C conservatives, were very relieved that none of those intrusive changes were implemented and are planning on avoiding any politician that supported such draconian measures to the point of actively supporting their opponents.

Amen.
And links to the supportive facts for those statements can be found in this post.

The federal courts do not belong in family matters and politicians should not be in the business of passing laws for only one individual. It's not the business of government.

Such a simple statement of conservative principal should never need to be defended on a conservative website.

The voters here will take care of the politicians involved and that's the way it should be.

I do think we the voters of Pinellas County sent the proper message to the GOP when we re-elected Judge Greer to his position as Judge in the middle of this staged Schiavo "crisis" with over 70% of the vote. As you said, most of us who live here and followed the local press coverage of Terri Schiavo from 1990 on wondered what moon-bat planet these latecomers to the story came from. Planet Hollyweird?

I gather that you are for the rule of law. Since you are so familiar with this case, did it ever occur to you that you had a non-termimal patient down there in a hospice for 5 years right in your own backyard? Could you refresh us on the rules of Medicare payments to hospices concerning prognosis and length of stay?
