CHURCHES AND NGOS MUST DROP THEIR ANTI-SECURITY FENCE CAMPAIGN

WIESENTHAL CENTER: IN WAKE OF LATEST PASSOVER SUICIDE ATTACK CHURCHES AND NGOS MUST DROP THEIR ANTI-SECURITY FENCE CAMPAIGN

Following today's deadly suicide attack in Tel Aviv by a 16-year old Islamic Jihad bomber from the West Bank which left nine dead and dozens injured, the Simon Wiesenthal Center called on Churches and NGO's to drop their anti-security fence campaign.

"Once again, the world reacts with indifference to another mass murder of Jews in the Holy Land on Passover," said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, Dean and Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

"Today's attack proves yet again that there is nothing more important for Israel than to complete it's security fence. We urge that the Churches and NGOs, who so arrogantly label this anti-terrorism fence as 'an apartheid wall', drop their campaign for its dismantlement," they added.

The World Council of Churches and other groups display a functional antisemitism by showing no concern for Jewish lives. Israel should redouble its efforts to complete the security fence and must take all other necessary steps to secure the lives and safety of her citizen," Hier and Cooper concluded.

The SWC is of course correct. Good fences make for good neighbors. Of course, I would be willing to bet that the SWC is against a fence along our border with Mexico.

"The World Council of Churches and other groups display a functional antisemitism by showing no concern for Jewish lives."

Or American lives either.

They oppose the Minutemen and the Security Fence in America too.

Christians should vote with their pocket-books and cut off all funding to churches which support terrorists in the Middle East - like the Philistinians, and terrorists in America - like the invaders pouring across our borders.

As a Catholic, I'm sorry to say that many independent publications for the faithful, such as "Inside the Vatican" have taken this stance, as well as some prominent priests and Vatican officials. The USCCB (U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops) supports organizations such as CRS (Catholic Relief Services) that are pro-Palestinian.

On the one hand, Catholics recognize the Jews as the Chosen Poeple, and Abraham as our Father in Faith, and John Paul made a special acknowledgement at the Wailing Wall ... but there is still a misunderstanding or a hidden resentment toward Jews which seems to appear only in extremely conservative ("The Remnant") or extremely liberal ("America") U.S. Catholics.

Of course, this is not an "official" Church viewpoint, those involved seem to think they are promoting peace, by operating under the common delusion that Palestinians want peace.

In a related story, Howard Dean calls for all churches affiliated with the World Council of Churches to lose their 501C3 tax exempt status.

< /sarcasm> (We all know whe only meant conservative Christian organizations)

Wasn't it the Presbyterian Church USA that started this campaign against the wall in Isreal?

Yes,the Presbyterian Church USA was the first mainline church to approve a resolution in 2004 calling for divestment in companies doing business in Israel.

In the 2004 PCUSA divestment resolution there was also a resolution condemning the wall and fence protecting Israel citizens from the Muslim terrorist bombers.

In 2003 the PCUSA had also passed a resolution condemning the wall and fence.

In June 2006 the Presbyterian Church USA General Assembly we meet and one of the agenda items will be to redebate the divestment/tear down the wall campaign.

I grew up as a Presbyterian and left the church several years ago because pastors receive medical coverage for abortion--yes, even partial-birth abortion.

I'm now a WESLEYAN, which is pro-life and conservative. I have peace of mind about where my money is going.
