Update: CIA Officer Fired for Leaking Classified Info to Media

WASHINGTON — A CIA officer has been relieved of his duty after being caught leaking classified information to the media.

CIA officials will not reveal the officer's name, assignment, or the information that was leaked. The firing is a highly unusual move, although there has been an ongoing investigation into leaks in the CIA.

One official called this a "damaging leak" that deals with operational information and said the fired officer "knowingly and willfully" leaked the information to the media and "was caught."

And don't forget, Joe Wilson said that he knew the papers were forgeries because "the names were wrong, and the dates were wrong." When confronted with the fact that he could not have possibly seen those documents at that time, he went on to claim that he was misquoted and some such nonsense. And his statements were made to at least 4 separate sources.

And then the press printed in big bold headlines that Joe Wilson was a partisan hack and a liar! Oh, I guess that never happened, did it. Grrrr.

There is enough material here in this thread for a book. Unfortunately, a book is not going to sway public opinion or get the exposure necessary to inform the public about this radical left-wing cabal attached to the very corridors of American power. I'm sure talk radio will discuss this tomorrow and, hopefully, over the coming weeks and months, but even that may not be enough. The levers of spin and misinformation will be going into overdrive in the MSM. And, let's face it, too many people get their news only from TV or the occassional newspaper. Conservatives may have to devise new tactics to break the MSM and get this story out. Time to get creative, folks. I am sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of bright conservatives smarter than I who are charting how to shine some light on this fascinating story. I hope.

I know what you are saying. A friend and I were discussing this very thing. The MSM is dangerous and has a monopoly--they simply retell the same story, reinforcing whatever pablum they want to feed the masses. Fortunately there are alternate sources out there, but your average person that does not "DO" the 'net or talk radio, only gets the soundbites at the top of the hour on their favorite TOP 40 station, or watches ABCNBCCBS news.

What can we do? I always correct the record when someone I know starts mouthing off, or I write e-mails, make phone calls. BUT THEY KNOW THEY HAVE THE POWER. It is so frustrating. The papers have Op-Eds that are almost always slanted to the left. They print only the whackiest letters to the editor from the right--never the Kos-Kool-Aid letters.

It is so frustrating. How long and how badly have we been lied to? It really makes you wonder.

Sure, I have the same suspicion/expectation about her return to the CIA - all I'm saying is I don't KNOW what was in her head at the time. But the best explanation certainly is that she was influenced by the ideas of the VIPS crowd on leaking national intel and saw a way to be a leftist hero to the Demagogic Party.

Exactly - I am confident that LJ was trying to use the slam on MM to show that he was not her friend, create distance, make him seem more objective in the rest of what he had to say. It could backfire if his comments on her terrible managerial skills gets much play anywhere, though, because then the question of how and why she ever became one of the handful of National Intelligence Officers (NIO) in the Clintonista era becomes even more disturbing - one person's opinion is just that, but if she really was that bad then there are a lot of other CIA people who know it, and more may emerge from retirees about how she was a 'political' promotion lifted above her betters. One supposed ex-spook compared the NIO positions to a 4-star General and said there are very few positions at that level in the CIA. Clearly from the leaks she is in bed with the Clintonistas and the MSM - but will we be able to find info on her specific allies and relationships which could help to open up new vistas of investigation? Hope so...!!

Well I've read every single post because, as is my wont, I want to keep up with this stuff. I do, as expected, have an opinion.

First, evidently this McCarthy woman was the target and as others have pointed out, a 61 year old woman does not want to go to jail.

All weekend I've been flabberghasted at the cancer growing in this country. A cancer with tentacles deep and far and wide. There is no other conclusion one can draw but that these are people who WANT the United States to go down.

I'll also suggest, softly, that for going on three years I've been suspicious that investigations were going on and connections were being made. It's no longer just a political thing going on here. There is a serious effort to allow the terrorists, ie the oil-rich thugs, to take over this country. I am saddened and deeply, deeply angry. What right do these people have to use their power to undermine this country? This is MY country. How dare they?

I'll leave with this thought....this is not just about idealology here. Sure there's some left-wing kooks, there's always kooks. But I am convinced that...well follow the money. Follow the money and keep following the money. Somebody, or a whole bunch of somebodies, is knee deep in this oil-for-food program. Make that waist deep.

And all these connections are about money in some fashion. Money in the form of Scott Ritter's 100K to "make a movie" (has it been released yet?), or money in the form of underserved Pulitzer prizes.

And somewhere in the middle of all this, okay I'll say it, but there's a Clinton here and a Clinton there. I've been suspicious of this for a while as I'm sure you all have been too. There's a Marc Rich connection in it.

All this effort, all this effort, all this effort...to stop the toppling of nasty and known-troublemaker, the lovely Saddam.

Only they didn't care about Saddam. Because the whole planet's in on this oil-for-palaces program except the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA?

When all the riff-raff is cleaned out and the truth finally comes out, this will be known as the blackest mark on this country's history, that our institutions were filled with traitors that, for a dime or a pulitzer or two, they would actually risk an attack by Saddam, who we know now had full intent to bring this country down.

All that they don't get caught with their hands in the till.

I'm sickened. Just sickened. If this administration doesn't follow this to the end of the rainbow I will be so disgusted.

If you REALLY think this was PLANNED ahead by the "traitors", they would have to do something REALLY obvious. Say ...something like getting the lib's hero,(that "patriotic Father of ALL whisle-blowers,)the one and only "Deep Throat" Watergate guy (who has NEVER even given an interview since he got "famous" in the 70's) to leave his "death bed" and get him to appear on "Larry King Live" 96 hours after Mary gets busted.

Now if something like THAT were to happen, THEN I might be able to see your point of view, but you can't believe that the rabid treasonous left would try to pull something so obviously pre-planned in case Mary needed some "help", do you??
