Update: CIA Officer Fired for Leaking Classified Info to Media
WASHINGTON A CIA officer has been relieved of his duty after being caught leaking classified information to the media.
CIA officials will not reveal the officer's name, assignment, or the information that was leaked. The firing is a highly unusual move, although there has been an ongoing investigation into leaks in the CIA.
One official called this a "damaging leak" that deals with operational information and said the fired officer "knowingly and willfully" leaked the information to the media and "was caught."

Good question!
I guess flyover country only needs to know about what MSM decides we need to know. I'm sure MSM would like to regulate the Internet so we wouldn't find out what they don't want us to know the way it used to be.
I suggest we move Congress to flyover country where our 'representatives' have to actually live where their voters live. They can teleconference. Get them out of Skansville, DC, home of incestuous know it alls.

Would be nice to have Tony Snow at the helm as this story unfolds..... It might almost seem, well, coordinated.

Great list of links, Chickenhawk!! One item that I had not seen before seems worth posting in full on this thread, because it purports to offer a bit of 'inside' info on when Typhoid Mary returned to the CIA and what she was doing there now. It would seem to support my hunch that she may have gone back into the CIA after Joe Wilson started his jihad against the WH, quite possibly with an explicit personal agenda to learn classified information about what the CIA and WH might be up to. I'm not saying she definitely went back with the intention of leaking, but I'll bet at the least that she was already an active participant in the cabal of libs who have been working the MSM behind the scenes to attack the WH, Rumsfeld, etc.
Larry Johnson (whose word cannot be trusted but who may accidentally reveal some useful info) says that Mary McCarthy only returned to the CIA in the past year or so. His blather about President Bush, Scooter Libby, etc. is the usual nonsense. He seems to think it is somehow exculpatory that she was not in Operations and could not have worked directly with any supposed "secret prisons and renditions" programs, but whether she worked directly with those programs is irrelevant to whether she learned of them in the IG's office and leaked the info, which she has supposedly already admitted to. Anyway, I thought people on this thread would find Larry Johnson's words of perverse interest: -----------------------------------------------------------
The Firing of Mary McCarthy
http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2006/04/the_firing_of_m.html
by Larry C Johnson
The case against the CIA Intelligence Officer, Mary McCarthy, fired for her alleged role in leaking information about secret prisons to the Washington Post's Dana Priest smells a little fishy. Let me state at the outset that the officer in question, Mary McCarthy, is an old acquaintance. I hasten to add that I do not consider her a friend. She was my immediate boss in 1988-89 and was instrumental in my decision to leave the CIA and take a job at the State Department's Office of Counter Terrorism. Mary, in my experience, was a terrible manager. I left the CIA in 1989 despite having received two exceptional performance awards during my last eight months on the job because I could not stand working under her.
That said, I take no delight in the news that she was fired. In fact, there are some things about the case that puzzle me. For starters, Mary never worked on the Operations side of the house. In other words, she never worked a job where she would have had first hand operational knowledge about secret prisons. She worked the analytical side of the CIA and served with the National Intelligence Council. According to press reports, she subsequently worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) from 2001 thru 2005. That is a type of academic/policy wonk position and, again, would not put her in a position to know anything first hand about secret prisons.
Sometime within the last year she returned to CIA on a terminal assignment. I've heard through the grapevine that she was attending the seminar for officers who are retiring while working with the Inspector General (IG). Now things get interesting. She could find out about secret prisons if Intelligence Officers involved with that program had filed a complaint with the IG or if there was some incident that compelled senior CIA officials to determine an investigation was warranted. In other words, this program did not come to Mary's attention (if the allegations are true) because she worked on it as an ops officer. Instead, it appears an investigation of the practice had been proposed or was underway. That's another story reporters probably ought to be tracking down.
I am struck by the irony that Mary McCarthy may have been fired for blowing the whistle and ensuring that the truth about an abuse was told to the American people. There is something potentially honorable in that action; particularly when you consider that George Bush authorized Scooter Libby to leak misleading information for the purpose of deceiving the American people about the grounds for going to war in Iraq. While I'm neither a fan nor friend of Mary's, she may have done a service for her country. She was a lousy manager in my experience, but she is not a traitor and has not betrayed the identity of an undercover intelligence officer. That dirty work was done by the minions of George Bush and Dick Cheney. It is important to keep that fact in the forefront as the judgment on Mary McCarthy's acts is rendered.

I have done absolutely nothing all day except read about this fascinating story.
This McCarthy character is tied to so many familiar names that I am, quite frankly, astounded. Zinni, Clarke, Berger, Wilson, and the list goes on.
I am sure I'll get much more info on the morning talk shows tomorrow, right?

It's really ON topic.
When was the last time one of us, or any other rightwing blogger had lunch with a rep?
With Rove?
Do ANY of our guys have staff that ck FR for thoughts, ideas, moods, facts, events going on in different states or worldwide for that matter.
FR would be invaluable to them.
Heck they could more informed by an FR live thread than with their sources, and the news networks. (Remember Nagin's pressers BEFORE the hurricane, the WH would have had a superb timeline and talking points against that SOB if they had someone to follow FR consistently)
Feingold is going to his source of strength, so should the WH and Congress go to theirs.
To: Enchante
I'll bet at the least that she was already an active participant in the cabal of libs who have been working the MSM behind the scenes to attack the WH, Rumsfeld, etc. That 'cabal' is led by Ratner, who has a particular thing for trying to take down Rummy.
