The immigration "debate" continues....and with every passing day, the American people get more and more fed up with the invasion of illegal aliens from Mexico. One proposal being kicked around is to build the equivalent of The Great Wall of Mexico. That's right...a huge wall stretching some 1,951 miles...from San Diego to Brownsville. That should just about do it. Make it a double-fence. Let really hungry dogs patrol the space between. It's an invasion ... it needs to be stopped.
At any rate, the desire for some sort of border wall is falling on deaf ears in Washington. It's not politically correct.....people think it's mean. But building a wall to prevent an invasion is natural right of any citizen or government. Mexicans are talking about the "reconquista." That's the dream of many Mexicans to retake the American Southwest ... as their own. If you aren't sufficiently agitated by this invasion, perhaps you would like to log on to http://www.aztlan.net. There you will find a story about a University of New Mexico Chicano Studies professor who is predicting a new, sovereign Hispanic nation in the Southwest. He calls it the "Republica del Norte" That would translate into the Republic of the North. This professor in an American university says that this is inevitable. Do you like the sound of that?
Anyway, enter the Minutemen. This is the group of citizen militia that have been patrolling the border with Mexico on their own time. They're tired of the endless stampede from Mexico. So now they've issued an ultimatum to President Bush. Build a fence or we'll do it for you.
In fact, it may happen. Already, landowners along the border are stepping forward to donate the land to put up the wall and contractors have stepped forward to donate equipment to build it. This could work...and maybe we can finally put a lid on illegal immigration.
Maybe
Treasure already ticked off on
the credit card! <>g<>
Plus...
VOLUNTEERS for a project cannot
be dubbed SLAVES.
Can't get there to build it. Where do I donate? And how much would a couple of coils of concertina wire cost?
One issue though: are the Minutemen prepared to sued by people stupid enough to get cut up in the wire? Or folks claiming to be injured 'cause the had to go around and suffered from dehydration, and exposure?
This is where I donated...

Uh, I think you might need to put down the crack-pipe and step away from the drugs.
What part of VOLUNTEER are you not getting?
Only true if a candidate arises who poses this alternative. Its hard to believe that either of the major parties would let such a candidate run.
Done.
Well folks, I hate to rain on your parade, but a fence in itself is just about worthless to secure a border. Yes, it could probably be built for $150/foot. Within a year it would be nothing more than scrap. Now if you are talking about providing the sensors necessary to monitor this fence you better be ready to donate some big bucks. Optical, electro optic, IR, radar, body capacitance, etc. - they dont come cheap And who supports all this. Operators, maintenance people and of course logistics. Then when you detect a penetration you need some sort of police force, complete with vehicles, choppers, arms and ammo and of course some authority to apprehend.
For 1952 miles of border a quarter million man force is probably not overstating the need. Good luck with your fence.
To which democrats respond : "people in hell want ice water."
Why do you bother trying to debate with a buffoon like Dane?
You hit the nail on the head.
The more workable and effective an idea is that could help control illegal immigration, the more the open borders wackos portray it as folly.
As I say in my book "Immigration Politics" regarding the open borders crowd:
It is a remarkable coincidence that in our "can do" nation, the only things we "can't do" just happen to be in the area of immigration enforcement.
"One issue though: are the Minutemen prepared to sued by people stupid enough to get cut up in the wire? Or folks claiming to be injured 'cause the had to go around and suffered from dehydration, and exposure?"
Sure, there are pitfalls. If we want to avoid risks in life, better to just down a vial of Hemlock and be done with it.
"Why do you bother trying to debate with a buffoon like Dane?"
I didn't realize Dane's capabilities, or lack there of. I've given up.
Why do they have to use union labor? And who gives a shit about laws. Illegals aliens, their employers, people who aid and abet their staying here don't abide by laws and regulations. Why should we?
You bet....US citizen volunteers versus illegal aliens.
No need to pay them Dane. They're volunteering of their
own free will.
you have Time or Talent left.
I'm fed up with my taxes and hard earned money going to people who break laws, trash private American citizens property, and then stand in our streets demanding their rights while ours are ignored! I sent $25.00 yesterday and fully support all efforts to retake our Country back as AMERICA FIRST!
The more pressure we keep on Mexico, immigration-wise, the more reformers
inside of Mexico can be emboldened and empowered to scale back monopolists'
abuses down there which keep our own country flooded with economic refugees.
Here's an interesting new thread on new legal reform progress that finally
emerged in Mexico I think as a result of immigration reform's failure:

We can make a difference for our sake, and their's as well. Isn't it the
neighborly thing to do?
