"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; or that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; or that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

From 40 years ago, "Every alien applying for American citizenship must, as a final step, take the following oath of allegiance to the United States." This was considered vital for the privilege of voting and enjoying the benefits of being an American. It's something to think about when we see crowds of foreigners waving foreign flags and demanding "Today we march, tomorrow we vote!"

I hadn't seen this before. I particularly noted this part: that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC. I wonder if this means I can go next door and punch my leftist looney neighbor.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Hey about all the politicians on both sides of the isle, they swear to this vow and if they break it - a trap door automatically opens and they go down to Earth's core and become a toasted marsh mallow.

Hispanics have it all wrong! If they would merely march with signs saying "Please make us citizens. We love America and all that it stands for."Americans would bend over backward to adopt them because they are wonderful people who work hard and have great values. But no, they march and threaten take-over and separate our Nation.

--- Oath of Allegiance to the United States ---

-- I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
-- that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
-- that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
-- that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law;
-- or that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law;
-- or that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law;
-- and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are all obligated as citizens to protect & defend our Constitution.
No one should be allowed to vote who refuses this oath.
You're right. You should have to take that oath right before you get to vote.
I want to hear the screams from the left if that was actually proposed as law.
What was really weird is to hear some screams from FReepers when I last proposed 'no oath, no vote'.
-- Turns out that more than a few here deny that we have any obligations to support our Constitution. Figure that.
Yes, and to become a citizen of the US there was an oath that went something like this: "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen.”(US Oath of Allegiance)
Sometimes I wonder whether we should all have to pass a citizenship test and take an oath to get the right to vote.
Sometimes I wonder whether we should all have to pass a citizenship test and take an oath to get the right to vote.
Too many idiots voting, and illegal aliens also. Our county attorney is prosecuting those who have voted and are not citizens, but I fear it is just a drop in the bucket. All the time we were trying to get Prop 200 (requiring voter ID and no state benefits for illegals) in play here in AZ we had to listen to the "No Borders" activates that illegals don't come here to vote!! In the mass marches a couple of weeks ago, I could of swore I heard " “today we march, tomorrow we vote.” "
Quotes from recent articles:
1)Dan Stein, president of the D.C.-based Federation for American Immigration Reform, said relaxed voting regulations and the ability to register to vote through the Department of Motor Vehicles allows illegal immigrants to get a form of legitimate identification. "There are huge fraud problems out there," he said. "There's no safeguards on it." He also said those groups pushing voter-registration efforts this year don't check to see if registrants are citizens. This flaw has the potential to "corrupt" the political system, he said. "Aliens have already shown they are willing to break U.S. law to come here. Why should we expect them to not vote?" Mr. Stein asked. "In a system where virtually no effort is made to ensure integrity, we'd be naive to say it isn't going on. You only need one vote to swing an election."
2)Democrats are happy to stoke this self-perpetuating dynamic, since it directly benefits them. Political scientist James Gimpel of the University of Maryland says that Latino voters who have recently become citizens vote Democratic by a margin of 2-1. So, the more new Latino voters there are, the stronger the lax-enforcement Democrats become.
