The weird thing is that Mexico went through a major Social Revolution from 1910-1930 in which the "Europeaness" which (in hindsight) was laughably promoted by Porfirio Diaz (himself 3/4s Amerindian) in the late 19th century was overthrown in favor of the concept of "La Raza Cosmica" in which the Indian aspects of the culture were pushed to the forefront in Mexican popular culture. Of course, those of racially mixed origin who led the political/military/cultural revolution merely married into the white elite, so the reigns of power didn't change much.

As Octavio Paz pointed out, there has never been a Mexican President, no matter his racial or social background, who hasn't taken a pale-skinned wife.

Here in Texas, some of the folks I know who are most scornful of Mexicans are themselves of Mexican ancestry, two or three generations back. The only person I've heard in recent memory refer to someone from Mexico as a "wetback" had a great-grandfather who rode with Pancho Villa. She's dark-skinned, speaks Spanish as well as English, and does not like working with Mexicans!

Well, I just visited the 'old' country in So. America and two others 'down there' after over 30 years, and folks, it looks the same, just that the pot holes and worn-out sidewalks show an extra 30 years of wear and tear.
THAT is the reason why so many of us are here an INTEGRATE and PRODUCE, and are LEGAL: we were/are sick of more currupt governments than what we we have here!!!
The ones that LIKE that $hit are the ones that are the problem, including the uneducated on purpose, and the ones that their only skill is to scheme till they drop.
More power to the immigrant that wants to make things right and produce, but to those that just want to milk the system, just... well, forget it, you don't belong here!
With all the corruption and political issues, this is still the best place to live, period, because all others are worse!

"Seventy-nine percent would be in favor of legalizing millions of undocumented migrants in the U.S. "

Um, they are from Mexico. Of course, they want it legalized. Who cares what they think.

racism drives every issue when someone of a particular race wants to break the law or use government to redistribute property from taxpayers to that special group.

All you have to do is watch Mexican television. How many Mestizos are there in the major shows? How many Cholos (indians) are hosts, newscasters, actors etc.. How many are in the government? Throughout Latin America from Tierra Del Fuego to the Rio Bravo it's the Criollos that are in charge. They occasionally elect a Mestizo or an indian such as in Bolivia. But the fact remains that the landed oligarchy that came from Spain 500 years ago is in charge and will likely be in charge in the future as they always have been. There is a saying in Brazil, "money whitens" when you rise up in power you marry into the oligarchy and your descendants start to look like pale Europeans.

Bald-faced lie!

My wife is a native of Mexico. I am one of the more vehement anti-ILLEGAL Immigration posters here. That just won't fly, but good try.

Someone please tell me why it makes someone a racist just because they don't want their culture changed, or might choose not to live by or associate with Mexicans, Chinese, etc?

Not saying I have a problem with doing so but really don't think anyone should be called a racist because they make those choices.

There are a lot of white people I don't want to live next to or be associated with.

"Using terms like “Racism” is just away to stop discussion on the real issues. This is a liberal socialist trick to use name calling or saying something can’t be done to take the issues off the table."

It's a little more insidious than that. The typical liberal tactic to control a discussion is to berate and scream and talk over anyone they disagree with.

No, this is a more subtle tactic, from the media (and most likley the usual Mexican and US politician suspects), to garner SYMPATHY for the poor, poor illegals. Sniff. How DARE you.

Expect more. A LOT more. This same tactic was used by the Japanese in the 90s, when they were buying property in the US in record numbers, and running roughshod over US industry, back and coddled by weak and corrupt government officials and biased, paid off media types. We were called racist then, too, for criticizing the Japanese...and it worked. Michael Crighton even documented the idea and reality in a movie and book, "Rising Sun".

This is the same thing. The marches and protests failed to garner the support the activists, businesses, media, and government officials expected - in fact, it got the reverse, they found the polls swinging towards the majority of the populace saying "Hell NO" to the idea of amnesty for millions of illegals. People are coming forward and demanding the borders be closed, the laws upheld, and the illegals dealt with.

So, they're now trying the "racist' card...but I think it will fail, because of the very nature of their being here illegally. They'll continue to play it, they have been for weeks now, with the sob stories of 'poor Ramon and Esmerelda who live off old Whopper Wrappers in a refrigerator box in a rusty pool of water in a junkyard, and they share it with 20 others. They just want to work, do the jobs fat, lazy, slob Americans won't do."

I'm really interested in seeing what the reaction to their "boycott" May first will be. We had a similar day a while back in the Bay Area, and the only comment people had, was how nice the commute was since all the illegals stayed home.

It's subtle now, but it's going to get more strident and in-you-face in the near future. It's going to be hilarious watching the media defend these criminals, and try and make us feel guilty for not wanting them here.

I can't speak for Clemenza but I have a feeling he is refering to the rather ignorant people who many of us had in our peer circle who plain did not LIKE Mexicans, calling them spics and wetbacks.
This was WAY before the illegal invasion. The debate on this issue should never be racialized but one needs to be honest and realstic and admit that many American whites-and many Mexicans here AND in Mexico-are trying to stir up the racial doo doo.

Mexicans are descendants of Europeans just like America

False. Only a tiny percentage. The vast majority of Mexicans are what we would call indians.

I have no problems with legal immigration to the USA. I am the son of legal immigrants.

The illegal alien issue has frustrated me to a great extent because the politician have let it get out of control and now it basicly appears that the illegal aliens are now acting like they have been done wrong by the USA.

The illegal aliens are being utilized as pawns in a Political Power Struggle by the Catholic Church, La Raza, and other radical organization that seek to develop a power base for an elite group of anarchist who want to put forth their agenda!

No where else in the world would illegal aliens have been able to show such contempt for the laws of the countries that they have come to.

With things being so bad in Mexico, should the entire population base of 100 million people just move to the USA?

I believe with the shift of this massive population base from one country & their failure to integrate & assimilate into the USA will result in just the transfer of the corrupt socialistic politics from Mexico to the USA!
