In the USA there are simple single ground prescription lenses. There are also Bi-Focal lenses which are ground with two prescriptions. One for distant and one for close up. Tri-Focal lenses has three separate prescriptions Close, Mid-Range, and Distant.
There is a fourth type called progressive in the USA. The bottom of the lens is ground for close viewing. The lower center is ground for mid range and the upper part is ground for distant viewing. The difference between progressive and tri focal lenses it the progressive lens is ground with a gradual change from close up to distant. There are no lines in the lens. These no lines lenses are called progressive ground lenses here in the USA. Instead of having three distances where the lens is in perfect focus, progressive lenses should have an unlimited number of distances where the lens is in focus... To see clearly one just learns to look through the right portion of the lens for the distance of the object under view.

Great bunch of pictures, Gretchen. The President of China looks so "normal" compared to the "Chia Pet" from North Korea! LOL!
He seems to be getting along all right with GW, too. Our president is so good with difficult people!

Hi snugs!
Was away watching our background video play on QVC...the product sold out, too! Yeah! It was a solar powered bird bath fountain. Brand new underwater solar powered technology. Very exciting! You'd think I owned the company, but alas...we always feel good when our videos help sell someone's product. www.qvc.com - search for M13747 - that's it!

LOL! I love the photo of the Prez pulling Hu back. I'll bet that one doesn't go on Chicom TV.
And Mrs Hu -- what a sourpuss.

Prayers for MamaB's husband to have courage in the face of this news...and that he will have good news from the biopsy, and it won't be cancer. God be with you both.

I think from your description then the progressive is probably the varifocal.

I hear that they censured the reporting of the women who interrupted the press briefing in the grounds or to be more accurate I believe they censured the BBC reporting that it had been censured.

Sounds about the same then, it would have been even more if I had picked special frames but I picked one of the cheapest ones about 50.00 dollars the rest is the lens.

To see clearly one just learns to look through the right portion of the lens for the distance of the object under view I'd like to hear from someone who has been using these for doing close work like drafting or sewing. Seems like it would not be easy.

My friend who is a design engineer could not get on with them at all because the the focus area is so limited.
For example you go out of focus across the single page of a paperback book and have to move your head the whole time.
So he could not use them for straight lines etc.
I understand talking to other people who are not that critical or perhaps simply do not notice it then there appears that thisis no problem. Hopefully this will be the same for - I have a 30 day money back guarantee.
My friend though being an engineer it screamed at him, he ended up having special bifocals and even they did not work great for him. In the end he had to get an ultra close pair of glasses for drafting/design work.

Near work is not a problem. (Sudoku) I find that I move my head slightly as I read across a page, (in a book, not the computer) in order to keep the focus perfect.

Drafting would be hard because the page is at different distances from the eyes. Not knowing if a line was straight was something that I lived with for many years, with ordinary tri-focals. There was a lot of area around arm's length that never stayed in focus.
