Yes we buy goods from China. No most of us are not communist party supporters at least I hope not. You can't survive too much in this world right now not buying their goods since our leaders {and trade unions} encouraged companies to move to China. I wish our leaders were as highly enthusiastic about getting our factories up and running again as they are kissing Communist China Dictators feet.
However no one in my family holds elected office especially at a national level where foreign policy is overseen and determined. If they did I would say their would be a major conflict of interest if they had brothers etc working as represenatives of China or engaged in such trade. That is my point. I didn't like Slick Willies family doing it and I don't like W's family doing so either. There are better trading partners they can go to who do not have gross human rights violations.

And what should the consequences be for an old lady who lived under a tyrannical communist regime for most of her life, and was a doctor in her country, persecuted for being a Falun Gong. What "consequences" would you suggest for speaking out against a tyrant? Throw her in jail like back in the home country?
If they think of prosecuting this courageous lady, there should be protesters for the protester.
This takes the straw, I long ago, stopped buying things from China, not easy to do; but now gives me more resolve.

I heard another dreaded "scientific poll" today that said most Americans think the Commander in Chief of the US military (standing army) should not be a civilian!!! The basic power-hungry character types that gravitate toward (lifetime) government service are the same in both countries, and the combination of activists and apathy let that onward march continue in both countries at their own natural pace.
Proof: This woman was arrested IN AMERICA because of an AMERICAN LAW that states that visiting government officials may not be "intimidated" by the "little people." I had no idea such a law existed, but having watched Waco, Elian Gonzales, etal, I'm not really surprised.
If you think it's ok for some noble Chinese women to "intimidate", and some commie pinkos to not be able to "intimidate" Rumsfeld or something, then all you've got to do is get agreement on who's the good people and who's the bad people (hint: the people with power make the rules.)

OK let's have a look see then. He makes treaties. It is within his authority to regulate our trade with China with the approval of congress. You lost the arguement when Bush continued to give China MFNTS which hurts our own nations workers. He is making entangling alliances & treaties with other nations that Washington warned about as well. That deal is harmfull to our own nation. That is what I meant by concentrating on our own economy {encouraging more production at home via less regulation in our own nationlower taxes etc} and not concentrating instead on bettering China's especially under the gross violations of what we consider as a nation or rather used to acknowledge as being rights gien to all people by our Creator.

Bush isn't a very bright guy - as he demonstrated with the Dubai Port Deal, Harriet Miers and his intransigence on the boarder. But then that runs in the family.

This latest stunt by the administration is absolutely inexcusable. The woman should have been escorted out, but that should have been the end of it. Throwing her in jail for protesting is frightening. Peopl can heckle anybody they want, apparently, except Communist stool-pigeons like this red Chinese official.
To believe that we can change the political climate in a country like Red China by giving them economic opportunities is the height of stupidity.

I try my absolute best to buy non China products. I try my best not to buy Mexican products as well. If you look at each and every item you pick up at a store for where it is made you will spend considerable time in any store finding non China items of the same item. This includes grocery shopping BTW as their are many food items come from China. I take that time. If brand B is made elsewhere I buy brand B instead of China brand A. Some cases it can not be avoided. Sometimes it can be done and sometimes it can't. Some common sense must apply.
The one and only thing I know of for certain that is made in USA and you don't have to look at the label to see is medication. BTW for the record go back and read my postings on these related threads about the protest. I do not supoport the government of China. Good grief I was the only person who even took the time to see who the lady actually was and posted the info as to her background.
Many years ago, I was in Philly attempting to get on a hotel elevator but some 6.5 foot kojak lookalike, stood in my way holding the door open. As is was in great pain (disk in my back), I was in no mood for this and said "I guess you're holding this elevator for someone more important than me. Kojak said "Yes he is a US Senator". I replied that a US Senator is simply my public servant, pushed the JBT to the side and got in the elevator and pushed the button for my floor.
The JBT did not say a word but the implication is that elected officials have more rights in the USA than the citizens. Well there used to be a 2nd Amendment to address this kind of thinking but we have lost our collective stones to use it.
We need to call our congress people and tell them to stand up for the protestor.
I think the punishment should fit the crime. I don't believe she committed much of a crime. She is at least innocent until proven guilty. We need to understand the facts of the situation prior to judging her guilt or innocence.
Is it a crime to speak your mind, without permission from the Chinese dictator/tyrant who allows persecution of many religious people and in fact encourages bad behaviour from his military representatives and police??
Someone once told me that "The louder you speak out, the safer you are." I believe that statement applies here.
This doctor has been trying to speak out on this topic for some time. Perhaps her life has been threatened by the Chinese government and the only way for her to be safe is to be in "custody in America."

Since you are so willing to give the woman a pass on this, how far would you be willing to let her go under the terms of the excuses you have granted to her?
To answer your question directly, what you site are extenuating circumstances regarding the reasoning behind what she did and thus should be taken into consideration by those who make such decisions.
Personally, I would favor her being given the same treatment that Cindy Sheehan got at the SotU.
