There was a crackdown Wednesday and dozens of illegal immigrants were arrested.
Many of those same immigrants were released just hours later
It was the last thing they, and their families, expected.
"They are not criminals. All they're here for is to work for their family," said Mariz Gomez.
And that's what they were doing making wooden pallets at two different locations when federal agents swooped in and took nearly 70 suspected undocumented workers to this federal detention center in north Houston.
"Just for them to come in here and to just throw them back to where they go. That's not right for them," said Gomez.
Families 11 News spoke with feared the men mostly from Central American countries would be deported.
But that was hardly the case.
Just five hours later Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents began releasing the undocumented workers.
"I was surprised by the quick release," said a man who asked that his face not be shown. Several others made the same request.
It is not clear why these immigrants were released so quickly but workers say it may be because the 950-bed facility was severely overcrowded.
The workers say they were told the facilities were full. Sources inside the facility say the same thing and that agents have been ordered to release immigrants as soon as possible.
Some of the workers say there were other problems Wednesday.
They said computers went down and agents had to scribble information, in one case, failing to write in a court date altogether.
The men we spoke with promised to show up for their immigration hearings, still finding it hard to believe they were released so soon.
WTF? Why do we have a federal government again?
Don't forget Chinese illegals, at least a hundred thousand. China won't take them back.
The article didn't say that the agents WANTED to release these folks; they were forced to do so. Not quite 'catch and release' in YOUR sense of the term.
Gomez should be deported for butchery of the English language.
It used to be called slave labor.
They didn't even bother to complete filling out the paperwork on some of them according to the article. One of the citations didn't even have a court date.
I'm sticking with catch and release...
just tell him you're an "undocumented driver"
boiling mad......can't speak........BS!!!!!!!!!!
even though I knew it was a "dog and pony show" and expected it.
When you point out to a Liberal that it amounts to slave labor, they have no answer. (But they get red in the face.)
Arrested on the job. They now have official documentation that they were working in the US prior to the coming amnesty. Hip hip HURRAH for the illegals!
Last night I said I'd watch this development with interest. I've now lost interest. I don't care to watch another dog and pony show. Looks like we are right back to square 1.AWB
Income tax evasion is a criminal offense. Entering this country illegally is a crime. Driving without a license is also a crime. This makes them criminals. What happened to the three strikes law?
You can call them what you want but under US law they are nothing more than accused or suspect. They only become "illegal" after adjudication, if convicted.
It's a short trip from riding the waves of change to being torn apart by the jaws of defeat.
Just making the wooden pallets Americans don't want to make.
The Mexicans that do not want to cooperate in the investigation against the corporation, are removed to Mexico. The non-Mexicans that do not want to cooperate in the investigation were paroled into the US until there deportation hearing, which they won't show up for; and the non-Mexican illegals that will cooperate and help the government go after the corporation will be promised a resident card.
Kinky is going to do surprisingly well in the election. Any idea if he got on the ballot?
I think they should deport the illegals, but not to Mexico. Send them someplace worse. Maybe then they'd get the idea not to come any more. (Just send planeloads of them to the Sunni Triangle, Syria, Kazakhstan...).
""They are not criminals. All they're here for is to work for their family," said Mariz Gomez. "
They ARE criminals and if the INS is aiding and abetting these illegals then fire them and bring charges against them too!
What's the point in having laws on the books if no one has the courage to enforce them?
This country has some fine young men and women sacrificing their lives for this country, yet we have some real gutless wonders working in our government. The enemy within....
