Well...maybe. But Conservative voters (at least in my circle) are equally unhappy with Republicans spending every dollar they have (and lots they don't). Where's the fiscal conservatism? They give the appearance of being a party that's been in power too long and become addicted to the trough.

That is an interpretation that does not take into account the finances that they have dealt with. The economic policies have taken the states from deficits to surpluses and have pulled the world economy into a two year boom with double digit growth rates in Asia, especially. They can stop the deficit spending now and balance the federal budget in due time. More stringent policies could have thrown the world into depression, and then it would have been the worst economy since Hoover. Nobody is so conservative to really want the later.

"Republicans spending every dollar they have (and lots they don't)."

Not every dollar... Bush gave us back about 800 Billion of them! I do want real spending reductions, however. That will NEVER happen if the dims win. NEVER!

The conservative voters in my circle are extremely pleased with the Bush tax cuts which they know they would have never received from a Democratic administration. They are also disappointed that Bush doesn't get more credit for these tax cuts--which are a big part of the reason for the healthy economy.

Are they prepared to surrender their individual congressional district in 2006? There may be a lot of justified complaining, and it should continue loud and long; but I wonder how appealing the opposition will look to conservatives on election day.

No real conservative will turn against a President fighting our enemies foreign and domestic in a battle for National survival. Most of them are not willing to return to power the Party of Treason because of perceived fiscal policies. You think returning to High Taxes, Low concern for National Security is an answer to ANYTHING?

How could any REAL conservative join the frothing Bush Haters on the Left?

Nor do most Americans truly understand what the National debt or deficit actually mean. For example how much real debt is there after considering the value of all the National ASSETS purchased with that debt? How much is the Grand Canyon worth? Or all the military hardware owned by the Defense Dept.?

But only fools believe it politic to sacrifice power for ideological purity particularly when pursuit of that purity allows the empowerment of FAR WORSE policies.

Some people have never realized that the real world requires compromises particularly when voting is a democratic process. And they appear clueless that only 35% of the electorate call themselves conservative while a much larger percent are moderate, 48%. The latter cannot be ignored and allowed to be drawn to the Left.
