Sigh. Maybe a tutorial on "UTC time and You" would be in order as well.
I've noticed this happening more and more; I subscribe to a number of automated e-mail alert systems, including USGS...so I got about 3 emails on this quake when it happened this afternoon.
This quake is the second most recent listed on the USGS worldwide site, so I think people just happen to go there, see it near the top, and assume it just happened.
Howlin wrote: "bd, is this the second time you've pinged me tonight?"
Yes, I believe it is the second time I have pinged you tonight.
Whoops!! Making note to ping Howlin only once a day...

No, I meant is this a second earthquake in the Pacific?
Heck, ping me all you want.
But Nooo. You have to bust the balloon, damp the fires, and turn on the light. Party-pooper.
Oh okay! Will do.
The first earthquake ping was about a new device someone invented which may be able to predict large earthquakes sometime in the future.
Yes, I'm aware of how confusing most people find "UTC." That's why I tried to be helpful, and translated the UTC time for you (in post #3 on this thread) to a selection of useful time zones, one of which probably corresponds to your local time.
I Love Strat too...
Hey we need a Strat ping,,, kidding
A majority of people in Sumatra are Muslims (90%)...
