I don't think Scott's leaving will help GWB any more than Agnew's forced resignation helped Nixon.

I nominate Rush Limbaugh for the job... screw the enemedia

To paraphrase the Maha Rushie, it's too much of a pay cut. (For those in Rio Linda, it means he wouldn't get enough money.)

Or how about dropping the dime that Val Plame wasn't a classified operative? It's self-mutilation.

Oh, I know. That one is killing me as well. How long has the false impression that she was covert been allowed to float out there without being corrected? Like they say, if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it over and over, people will eventually come to believe it. I think the White House PR problem is much larger than just Scott McClellan!

Poor old Scooty wasn't the VP - he wasn't even a cabinet member.. he WAS the punching bag of the MSM yapping class, so I really don't see a downside to this..

I agree, his strategists and the RNC's strategists are getting their butts whooped by the Dems.

Sad, but true. It seems that they may have realized (finally) that they do have a problem. It's a start. It can only get better now, right? We can only hope.

Ben Stein would be fun.

He is a sharp conservative, and he could rope-a-dope them to sleep with his monotone if they got too annoying, and charm them with his sense of humor as well.

No I didn't hear about that happening.

Oh yeah. FReepers caught it and they changed it in about fourty minutes. Too late for them, NOT too late for us to save it to our hard drives, though!

Here's the detailed pic:

You'd have to right-click it and click, "Properties," to get the filename.

I nominate Jeff Stein, he will insult and put these idiot reporters in their place without them even realizing it. It will be comical.

I would really like to see Mark Steyn in this position. What a hoot that would be! They'd make money selling ringside seats!

I say:
I can't believe no one has mentioned yet another Stein. Appoint Ben Stein. Like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I can see him doing this at a White House Press conference:

"In 2001, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the -- anyone? Anyone? -- the Clinton Recession, passed the -- anyone? Anyone? The Bush Tax Cut bill which -- anyone? Raised or lowered? ... lowered taxes, in an effort to revitalize the economy. Did it work -- anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did work, and the United States began its recuperation from the Clinton Recession."

Ben Stein

You can look through articles written by Stein in the American Spectator

John Bolten might be a good press secretary, now that you mention the name.

That guy would be a riot!

Scott McClellan should've been out at least a year ago when he fouled up the president's stand on leak-gate. Bush himself had nothing but consistent statements but McClellan made it seem Bush had reversed himself leading to intense Media backlash.

This White House is terrible at PR. Good riddance to McClellan.

It goes back far before that. To April, 2003, at least:

President Bush's stated support for the renewal of a controversial "assault weapons" law passed during the Clinton administration has caused anxiety and consternation among a spate of gun groups, gun owners and fellow Republicans. ... .

White House officials did not immediately respond to requests from WorldNetDaily to clarify the president's position. According to administration spokesman Scott McClellan, Bush "supports the current law, and he supports reauthorization of the current law," Knight-Ridder newspapers reported Saturday.

Even though Ann Coulter would be like red meat for us conservatives, Ben Stein would be a better choice, just for the sheer delight on watching him make the Drive-By Socialists look stupid.

Great post, BTW.

The rumor now is that the communications director will be leaving as well, though exactly how soon, that is not clear.

It appears that is not a push out, but a voluntary decision if the rumor is correct.

That would be a more plumb position for Snow than just WH press secretary since he would be in charge of the entire WH message.

I wonder if Snow's quietness on this matter (I assume he has not spoken publicly today on the issue) may be that he may be offered or was offered THAT spot instead of simply press secretary. We will see.
