Dr. Osterholm is correct but it's not just the meds but even mundane medical supplies such as depletion of IV and drainage tubing that will shut many facilities down. I used to see shortages every weekend I worked due to the hospital industry's just in time business mentality. If transportation is put on hold due to a crisis the impact will trickle down to lives lost.

Medieval cemetery destroyed in border conflict (RoP alert & destruction of the Chistendom)
The Australian ^ | April 26, 2006 | Jeremy Page
Posted on 04/23/2006 1:34:00 AM PDT by CheyennePress
A MEDIEVAL cemetery regarded as one of the wonders of the Caucasus has been destroyed in an act of cultural vandalism likened to the Taliban blowing up the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan in 2001.
The Jugha cemetery was a unique collection of several thousand carved stone crosses on Azerbaijan's southern border with Iran. But after 18 years of conflict between Azerbaijan and its western neighbour, Armenia, it has been confirmed that the cemetery has vanished. The Institute for War and Peace Reporting, a London-based non-government organisation that supports independent journalism, said one of its staff had recently been to the highly restricted site.
Where there once stood between 2700 and 10,000 intricately carved headstones, or khachkars, dating from the 9th to the 16th centuries, there was only a dry patch of earth, the institute said.
It was the first independent confirmation of what Armenia has long alleged - that Azeri authorities have razed the cemetery since the two ex-Soviet republics began a bloody border war in 1988.
The war ended in a ceasefire in 1994, with 30,000 dead and a million displaced, but still simmers over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is held by Armenia but internationally recognised as Azerbaijan.
Foreign organisations had been unable to visit the cemetery because it is in Nakhichevan, a tiny enclave of Azerbaijan cut off by Armenia and Iran and accessible only by air.
Azerbaijan has repeatedly dismissed Armenia's allegations as scaremongering and in turn accused Armenia of destroying hundreds of Muslim sites.
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliev has dismissed reports about the destruction as "a lie and a provocation". The institute's revelation threatens to embarrass him and further cloud prospects for a lasting peace with Armenia.
Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian welcomed the report. "The irony is that this destruction has taken place not during a time of war but at a time of peace," he told London-based newspaper The Times.
"There has been clear intent by the Azerbaijanis to eliminate all evidence of Armenian presence on those lands. To do that, unspeakable, irreversible destruction has been wrought and 10,000 tombstones which hold immense religious and artistic significance are simply gone."
Tahir Tagizade, a spokesman for Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, said there had never been an Armenian cemetery or any other Armenian cultural relics in the area visited by the institute.
"As a multi-ethnic society, we are proud of our diverse cultural heritage," he said. "I don't see any reason for destroying Armenian property, even though we are at war with the Armenians." The report comes as a European Parliament delegation is visiting both countries to look into allegations of attacks on cultural sites.
It had hoped to visit the Jugha site, but has yet to be granted permission.
UNESCO said that it was also ready to send a fact-finding mission but needed permission from the Azeri and Armenian governments.
The report quoted two witnesses as saying that the cemetery had been deliberately destroyed between 1989 and 2002.

"Irans president recruits terror master"
The Sunday Times ^ | April 23, 2006 | Sarah Baxter and Uzi Mahnaimi

"Plot for revenge attacks on West"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "IRANS president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, attended a meeting in Syria earlier this year with one of the worlds most wanted terrorists, according to intelligence experts and a former national security official in Washington.
US officials and Israel intelligence sources believe Imad Mugniyeh, the Lebanese commander of Hezbollahs overseas operations, has taken charge of plotting Irans retaliation against western targets should President George W Bush order a strike on Iranian nuclear sites.
Mugniyeh is on the FBIs Most Wanted Terrorists list for his role in a series of high-profile attacks against the West, including the 1985 hijacking of a TWA jet and murder of one of its passengers, a US navy diver.
Now in his mid-forties, Mugniyeh is reported to have travelled with Ahmadinejad in January this year from Tehran to Damascus, where the Iranian president met leaders of Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas.
The meeting has been dubbed a terror summit because of the presence of so many groups behind attacks on Israel, which Ahmadinejad has threatened to wipe from the map.
Janes Intelligence Review cited reports in recent weeks of Mugniyehs presence alongside the president.
Michael Ledeen, a Middle East expert and former Pentagon and National Security Council official who wrote that Mugniyeh had probably been there, said last week senior American officials had confirmed it.
Its hard to identify Mugniyeh because he is said to have changed his face and his fingerprints, Ledeen said. But senior government officials have told me I was right. He was there.
Shortly after the Damascus summit Henry Crumpton, head of counter-terrorism at the state department, singled out the elusive Mugniyeh as a threat. The Iranians, Crumpton said, have complete command and control of Hezbollah. Imad Mugniyeh works for Tehran. And you cant talk about Hezbollah and not think about Iran. They really are part and parcel of the same problem.
Mugniyeh lives in Iran and has evaded capture for more than 20 years, despite a $5m American bounty on his head. Western intelligence reports claim he has many connections to terrorist cells in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the US and he is said to have met Osama Bin Laden."
Note: The tape we were waiting for has aired. Usama ranting about our limiting aid to Hamas; calling for a boycott of Western products, etc. More to come...Here is one brief article with hardly any specifics.
Jazeera airs new bin Laden audiotape
DUBAI - Pan-Arab television station Al-Jazeera broadcast a new audiotape from Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden on Sunday, the first attributed to the Western world's most wanted man in three months.
In the recording, bin Laden speaks about the "situation in Iraq, Palestine and Sudan," and what he describes as a "crusade against Islam," the satellite channel said.
In the last audiotape atttributed to bin Laden and aired by Al-Jazeera in January, he threatened new attacks against the United States but also offered the American people a conditional "truce."
That tape marked the first time that bin Laden had been heard from in more than a year but there is still no information about the whereabouts of the man behind the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States and a host of other terror strikes.

Israeli experts help rehabilitate Iran's earthquake-hit areas
JERUSALEM (AFP) - While Iran repeatedly threatens to destroy Israel, the Islamic state has recently hosted experts from its arch rival who helped rehabilitate areas devastated by earthquakes.
The services of the three unnamed men, who are employees of a Tel-Aviv based company, were requested by Tehran through a Dutch contracting company which is itself partly owned by an Israeli, the mass selling Yediot Aharonot reported Sunday.
The experts examined ways to reinforce certain infrastructures, such as bridges, roads, sewage and pipes which had been destroyed in the massive earthquake which struck south-east Iran in late 2003.
Iran and the Jewish state had close economic ties before the 1979 Islamic revolution, with Israeli companies playing a central role in the construction of Iran's modern infrastructure.
"We arrived there with blueprints which are still in Israel. Several years ago we were instructed by then infrastructure minister Ariel Sharon to hand the Iranians parts of the Israeli infrastructure plans there following an earthquake," one of the experts said.
The three Israelis, who had deposited their passports in the Netherlands and were given special laissez-passez which did not disclose their nationality, were received and hosted by Iranian officials, the report said.
According to the experts, indirect commercial ties between the two rival states have flourished during recent years and today involve tens of millions of dollars in commerce as Iran buys Israeli-developed agriculture materials and know-how.
During their visit, the experts visited and celebrated the Jewish festival of Passover with members of Tehran's small Jewish community.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has recently branded Israel as a "tumor" which should be "wiped off the map".

Alleged Osama Tape: West at War With Islam
By STEVEN R. HURST
The Associated Press
CAIRO, Egypt
Osama bin Laden purportedly said in an audio tape broadcast by Al-Jazeera television Sunday that the West's decision to cut off funds to the Palestinians proved that the United States and Europe were at war with Islam. He also said the West was supporting what he called a "Zionist crusader war against Muslims."
"The blockade which the West is imposing on the government of Hamas proves that there is a Zionist crusader war on Islam," the speaker on the tape said.
"I say that this war is the joint responsibility of the people and the governments. While the war continues, the people renew their allegiance to their rulers and politicans and continue to send their sons to our countries to fight us."
The authenticity of the tape could not immediately be verified. It was the first purported new message from bin Laden since Jan. 19. In that audiotape, he warned that his fighters were preparing new attacks in the United States but offered the American people a "long-term truce" without specifying the conditions. That tape was posted in full on a Web site a month later and included a vow by the terrorist chieftain never to be captured alive.
