MAY 19--A teenager who was charged last year with threatening the lives of President George W. Bush and other federal officials has again been arrested, this time for manufacturing bogus U.S Secret Service credentials. Acting on an anonymous telephone tip, federal agents yesterday arrested Peter Bonfiglio, 19, at the New York City residence he shares with his grandparents. According to a federal criminal complaint, a copy of which you can find below, Bonfiglio admitted to manufacturing and selling the Secret Service IDs and even showed agents the computer and printer he was using to produce the fakes. As noted in the complaint, the counterfeit credentials bore the name of a Secret Service agent involved in the first federal action filed against Bonfiglio. In that case, the teenager, then residing in Florida, allegedly made repeated telephone and written threats on Bush's life and warned that he would bomb federal buildings in Sarasota. In a June 2005 arrest affidavit, Secret Service agent Don Herrington reported that Bonfiglio left him a voicemail message stating, "he was going to kill the President, blow up my building, and that I was expected to pay and die." The credentials recently created by Bonfiglio, who is pictured in the above mug shot, carried Herrington's name (though it was slightly misspelled). While Bonfiglio's lawyer argued that the teen was unstable, a federal judge in Tampa found him competent to stand trial for threatening Bush. However, prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss the felony count in December, noting that Bonfiglio had been "involuntarily committed to the custody of the State of Florida." It is unclear how long Bonfiglio was a ward of the Sunshine State or when he relocated north. At a U.S. District Court appearance yesterday, Magistrate Roanne Mann released Bonfiglio on $10,000 bond, ordered him to reside with his grandparents in Queens, and restricted his travel to New York City and Long Island. Summary: Arafa Auda Ali, age 28, an alleged member of the Egyptian Tawhid wal Jihad organization and suspect in the April 2006, was killed in a fight with Egyptian security forces on the Egyptian side of Rafah, a city which straddles the Gaza/Egypt border. The report identifies Ali as the current leader of Egyptian TwJ, the local affiliate of Abu Musab al Zarqawi's organization. Ali is likely the unnamed 'Dahab attack plotter' reported to have found shelter in Gaza care of Hamas in this story by Aaron Klein at WorldNetDaily.com. Sweillam says Ali was the successor to "Nasser Khamis el-Mallahi" and Klein says Ali was a relative of "Khaled Musaed" described as "a Sinai dentist Egyptian security officers say was the Sinai coordinator for al-Qaida-linked groups in the area". We suspect that al-Mallahi and Musaed are one and the same, and both reports say he's dead too.
Notes: It remains an open question whether Ali was ever on the Gaza side of Rafah, and if so, how he came to be back on the Egyptian side just in time for the Egyptian forces to show up and kill him. We wouldn't be surprised to find that someone in Hamas or the Popular Resistance Committees now has a little extra cash in his pocket.
The story mentions Israel three times even though there is no Israeli connection. The story never mentions Gaza, Palestinians, Hamas or the PRC.
Egyptian reports of counter-terrorism successes should be taken with a big grain of salt. Reports of such successes are frequently followed by still more stunning terrorist attacks, and it is unclear to what extent the Egyptians actually have a handle on their global jihad problem.
Finally, a question that we have not seen asked, let alone answered, is this: Is Hamas colluding with Egyptian TwJ and/or al-Qaida to help destabilize the Mubarek regime in Egypt just as it was planning attacks on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan?

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "HONOLULU (AP) - An oil tanker spilled up to 2,000 gallons of crude oil into the Pacific Ocean on Saturday morning, an official said.
The Coast Guard and the state Health Department categorized it as a minimal spill, said Nathan Hokama, spokesman for Tesoro Corp., which owns the tanker. There were no immediate reports of harm to wildlife.
The spill occurred about 1.5 miles off the coast of Oahu when a hose line pumping oil from the tanker to a floating buoy disconnected, Hokama said.
"The only thing we know right now is that one of the couplings in the hose separated, which is what it's supposed to do whenever there's a strain on the hose," he said."

Two Christian men – one an American evangelist and the other a Pakistani missionary – have exposed a senior member of an al-Qaida-linked group behind a trade in Christian children by going undercover and secretly filming their purchase of 20 boys, age six to 12.
Gul Khan, a wealthy militant and senior member of Jamaat-ud Daawa, an Islamic organization declared by the U.S. State Department to be a front for another banned terrorist group banned in Pakistan for joining with al-Qaida in 2003 in an attempted assassination of President Pervez Musharraf, was filmed by a hidden camera accepting $28,500 from a Pakistani missionary posing as a businessman wanting to purchase boys to work for him as street beggars.
The two Christian men hatched their elaborate sting after seeing pictures of the abducted boys, taken from Christian villages in the Punjab, the London Times reported. During the months the two developed their plan, the American evangelist, who runs a small charity called Help Pakistani Children returned to the U.S. to raise funds. He asked to be identified only as "Brother Dave," His Pakistani counterpart took on the identity of a businessman named "Amir."
"We knew if we just purchased the boys, the slavers would just restock. We would be fuelling the slave trade," said Brother David.
Neither man knew when Amir made contacts in the black market to set up a meeting with the boys' abductors, the trail would lead to Khan or the JUD.
"We realized we were out of our depth," Brother David said. But they didn't give up – and they prayed.
Within a week, Amir had purchased three of the boys for $5,000 and paid a $2,500 deposit for the remaining 17. Amir was given two months to raise $28,500 to complete the purchase. Khan, he said, told him it would not be a problem if the deadline was missed – he could make more money by selling them for their organs.
While Brother David was in the U.S. raising the needed funds, Amir continued to socialize with Khan who always had a retinue of Kalashnikov-toting bodyguards. He also began to work with the police in hopes they would arrest Khan, but the authorities insisted that any transaction be secretly recorded for evidence.
Almost two weeks ago, Amir was summoned to meet Khan to complete the deal. Although police, disguised as laborers, were stationed close to the outdoor meeting site, Khan's agents took Amir and his assistant to a second location for the exchange.
To Amir's dismay, Khan took the bag of cash – and the assistant as a hostage – saying he would release the children and the assistant once he determined the currency was real. Khan was filmed driving from the meeting with a bag full of money to the JUD headquarters at Muridke, near Lahore.
In the late '90s, Osama bin Laden funded the building of JUD's headquarters. The group's assets were frozen last month after the U.S. Treasury Department declared the group a terrorist organization.
"I was so praying that your money was good," Amir's assistant told him later.
After several hours, the hostage and 17 boys were freed. They have been returned to their parents, many of whom had given up hope of ever seeing their sons.
The two Christian men are prepared to present their evidence and have demanded the prosecution of Khan and an investigation of JUD, but the police told them the reach of Pakistan's Islamic groups is too long for them to be dealt with directly. They continue to flourish, despite repeated "crackdowns" on extremists by the Pakistan government.
JUD's leader, Hafez Muhamed Sayeed, was accused of inciting riots earlier this year in connection with the cartoons of the prophet Muhammed published by a Danish newspaper.
"The slavers must be stopped and brought to justice," Brother David said. "I pray that a public outcry will arise in Pakistan and around the world that will put an end to their vile business."
