Your public (gubbermint) schools are managed by your local school board, your state board of education, and the Federal Department of Education. Two out of three of those are unneeded (and you know which two). Imagine the money you could save and plow into your school system.
bttt! keepin the squirrels busy today, I see. good for you!
Leaving something out aren't we? It would un-tax the poor, even insulating them from SS and medicare taxes since everyone would receive a prebate of all sales taxes needed to purchase life's basic necessities. At the same time, those who make and spend a lot of money will pay a lot more in taxes. Those who make and save a lot of money won't pay as much. Those who make very little money will pay next to nothing.
With the geez around there is no rest for the SQL's. They must guard their jobs - I mean nests 24/7.
How do you know?
They pay taxes now every time they purchase something here - don't forget those embedded taxes!
Yeah, so do we. But they don't spend hours on tax returns and stroke a big check every year. We do.
So Chrysler goes under instead? That's better?
All of the economists I have read say that the fair tax would be a huge boon to the economy. What's good for the economy is good for Chrysler.
Of course, the bill the does nothing to repeal the 16th Amendment, so we would probably be stuck with both a federal sales tax and the income tax. Not good.
Of course the bill is predicated on repeal of the 16th.
And, the bill does nothing to rein in government spending at all
Invalid point. It doesn't cure cooties either. It merely replaces the income tax. We'll deal with spending on another thread.
Doesn't cure cooties, but it does level the global playing field, and it does defang the WTO......because the FairTax is fully border adjustable. Income based fundamental tax reform proposals are not border adjustable, perpetuate the pretense by which the WTO descriminates against our goods....and amount to being "Stuck on Stupid." Enough. Time to enact the Fairtax.

You've had it pointed out to you on another thread that if it became law today, the revenue neutral rate would be about 19%.
Show us how your 15% is revenue neutral and includes the prebate and we're on board.
How 'bout repealing the 18th????
Si!!!
Tha amount of taxes that those in the illegal economy pay via the embedded taxes is vanishingly small since only the portion represented by the profits of the seller are taxed; the balance is merely the increased cost to the purchaser and not tax revenue.
the FairTax bill doesn't need o repeal the 16th (in fact, cannot since a repeal bill has greatly different requirements from a tax bill - as does a spending bill). The bill does eliminate the income/payroll taxes (along with others), the IRS, and requires the destruction of tax records. It also calls for the repeal of the 16th,
Altering the tax system help taxpayers get back in control of government spending while leaving it in the manipulative hands of the pols does not at all - and never will.
Ah, but you'll never get your "starve the government" bill passed unless it IS revenue neutral.
that's the beauty of the FairTax - it IS revenue neutral yet the resulting operation gives us as taxpayers the ability to reduces taxes paid thereby "starving the government" - and your idea has no possible hope of doing that.
I couldn't agree more. Service in congress either as a member of the house (3 terms max) or as senator (1 term) should serve only as resume fodder for your life in the regular world the rest of us live in. It should only be a bullitt point on the resume, e.g. *Served as Senator from NY 2000-2006.
It's very clear that the rate will be decreased to match whatever the revenue neutral rate (now about 19%) is aat the time of paggage - could be either lower or higher.
One of the main objectives is to make everyone aware how inefficient from a dollar standpoint "their" government is and what it really costs.
IAE, the bill will be revenue neutral when passed, not positive or negative.
