Tom Cruise is planning to eat the placenta after fiancèe Katie Holmes gives birth to their child. The actor, 43, said: 'I thought that would be good. Very nutritious.'
But when it was pointed out it would be a big meal, he added: 'OK. Maybe I won't.' The baby is due any day and the couple plan to wed in the summer.

"Whatever the woman wants. I'm not gonna tell Kate...you know, if she needs an epidural, she's gonna get her epidural," he said.
"And there's this whole thing that if she needs medicine, she needs medicine."
He explained the idea behind a Scientology silent birth. "It's basically just respecting the mother and helping to be quiet. Not the mother.
"The mother makes as much noise...and people...you know, she's going through it. She does what she's gotta do. OK?"
Miss Holmes is due to give birth any day.
........and a nice glass of Chianti.......
Does Scientology include forms of cannibalism?
What is this, E! ? Who cares?
I remember a fake ad on "Saturday Night Live" for "Placenta Helper", with one mother to be telling another one that it made dinner for several.
This wierd "tradition" freaks me out.
Saturday night live once planned a fake commercial (it didn't air) for "Placenta Helper"
Yeah, Scientology is a religion, not A CULT

Too much time and too much money a crazy man makes.
Did they eventually air it? I remember that it was cut at one point - one of the writers talked about it in an interview. I guess they decided to go with it.

The Mission Impossible star has apparently vowed to eat Katie's placenta straight after she has given birth as he believes it will be very nutritious
Tom 'to eat afterbirth'
11.55AM, Tue Apr 18 2006
Sofa leaping father-to-be Tom Cruise has revealed his latest bizarre plan - to eat Katie Holmes' placenta.
In an admission which seems to prove Cruise desperate to stay in the headlines, the Mission Impossible star has apparently vowed to eat Katie's placenta straight after she has given birth as he believes it will be very nutritious.
The admission is just the latest in a long line of crazy outbursts which Tom has appeared adamant to shock the world with.
Just days ago the star completely backtracked on comments he had made, saying that Katie would have to give birth in complete silence and that she should not scream.
Surprising as it may seem, Tom is not the only person to have odd placenta wishes- after the birth, some women take a piece of paper and lay the placenta on it and later frame it and hang it on the wall!
Eating the placenta, placentophagia, is practised in many parts of the world- famously back in 1998, a British television chef fried it and served it to all of his guests!
Showbiz couple Rod Stewart and wife Penny Lancaster took home their baby's placenta and buried it in the garden.
The act may appear odd to many, but it is believed eating the placenta helps avoid postnatal depression and is deemed as normal in many cultures.

I had/have an SNL book, I know it was in there, maybe it never did air though.
Better put some "navy gravy" on that, and wash it down with a bottle of Chianti!
I saw an ad for the next MI movie last night. My only thought was, "eeeeew, don't we already see more of Cruise than we want to?? Now we're supposed to shell out MONEY for that freak show?"
I'm glad I've still got two boxed seasons of Babylon 5 to watch.
Crazy man his biology and cultural myths does not know. The new mother, not the father, from need of minerals and nutrients, the palcenta eats.
;-)
Lovely.
It aired. I remember seeing it. Hilarious!
cruise is a NUT
