Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday that Israel knows "how to respond" to the deadly suicide bombing in Tel Aviv earlier in the day, while his spokesman said that Israel blamed Hamas for the attack.
Nine people were killed and dozens were wounded when a teenaged terrorist from Islamic Jihad blew himself up outside a falafel restaurant in the Neve Sha'anan area of southern Tel Aviv.
Hamas declined to condemn the bombing, calling the attack "self-defense."
The U.S. said in response Monday that countries seeking to promote Middle East peace should note the praise offered by the Hamas-led Palestinian government for the bombing.
U.S. Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice called Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to condemn the attack, according to Foreign Ministry officials in Jerusalem.
Speaking at a faction meeting of his Kadima Party at the Knesset, Olmert said that he was weighing a response, and added that the attack could have been timed to coincide with the swearing in of the new parliament in Jerusalem.
"We will know how to respond in the way and manner required, and we will continue to act with all means at our disposal to thwart further such incidents," he said.
An official in the Prime Minister's Office, David Baker, told Haaretz that, "The Hamas led government continues to call for the destruction of Israel and does so at every opportunity.
"This only serves as a catalyst for further attacks against Israel, which the Hamas continues to applaud and to express full support for," Baker said.

Obliterate their schools, hospitals, water treatment facilities and power stations. Then tell them that next time, it will be their mosques.
No, they haven't. It's the stupid U.S. and the U.N. that are handcuffing them. Personally I think the $3 billion we give them every year is payoff money not to attack the Arabs.

It is time to end the occupation of Israel by Muslims, send them to the 22 Muslim Arab nations nearby.

I like your tactics.
He should STFU and just do it, and do it right now. And make sure that the response is much more deadly and destructive than the original bombing. Make them think at least once before doing it again (normally they don't think at all -- that's what makes them savages and barbarians in the first place).
Israel should retaliate, harder, with more punishment, more casualties. Bold talk does accomplishes nothing.
