Rush to judgment at Duke
orlandosentinel ^ | April 16, 2006 | Kathleen Parker

'We don't know all the facts about the alleged Duke lacrosse rape, but . . ."

That's more or less how most commentators have introduced their remarks on the case that has reduced the Durham, N.C., community to prayers, tears and recriminations.

Let me interpret the code for you: Men are bad.

Even though we don't know what happened, we're not going to let the absence of facts interfere with our indictment of a team, a coach, a school, but more to the point -- of boys.

About the only thing to emerge with any clarity since a black exotic dancer claimed that three white lacrosse players raped her last month is our willingness to believe the worst about males.

That belief is all the more rewarding if the males happen to be white, as well as athletes, and especially if they're perceived to be privileged. If there's one thing we can't bear in this country, it's spoiled white boys who think the world owes them a good time.

snip

While we wait to hear what the grand jury decides, we might turn our harsh judgment inward and recognize that the anti-male groupthink that permitted a presumption of guilt in Durham is little different than the lynch-mob mentality that once channeled rage against blacks.

Obviously, no woman deserves to be raped for any reason, under any circumstances. But nor do men deserve to be presumed guilty just because they're men.

Indictments will of course prove nothing. Have you tried out the "full body condom made from newly developed materials in the Duke lab" theory in this thread?

lol I read that . . . the stuff people come up with!

"No DNA on her or in her."

If there was NO DNA present what was the basis for requiring the team to provide samples? One would think that the 4th amendment would protect you from have to give up a sample if there was no basis for using it to determine guilt or innocence. Doesn't make since that there was no DNA present. Very confusing.

Yes, it occurred to me after my earlier post that white feminazis (of either gender) might also be willing to find the defendants guilty even if the case rests solely on an unsubstantiated accusation, with no evidence to back it up.

There was a case some years back in Illinois where a man spent several years in prison before his supposed victim came forward and admitted that she had made the charges up--that no rape had occurred and she had had no contact with the man before she picked him out of a lineup. I think the man's name was Gary Dotson, or something like that. It took some months longer before the governor pardoned him. I don't think the woman involved suffered any consequences. He wasn't exactly a choirboy--he was brought in for the lineup because he had some previous run-ins with the law--but he hadn't raped that woman.

Fox News reporting that Nifong will NOT ALLOW THE PLAYERS TO TURN THEMSELVES IN VOLUNTARILY IF/WHEN THE INDICTMENTS COME DOWN!

The DA made this statement.

*The players' lawyers pointed to a sworn statement made by the district attorney's office when it asked a judge to order the players to submit DNA samples.

The statement said, "The DNA evidence requested will immediately rule out any innocent person and show conclusive evidence as to who the suspects are."*

They either lied about having DNA to compare it to or they didn't like the results of no players matching.

So, you have no opinion now whatsoever, right? So, in your mind, the Duke players are equally innocent to being equally guilty.

They either lied about having DNA to compare it to or they didn't like the results of no players matching.

It appears to be the latter, the DA didn't like the results of the DNA test so now he's saying the DNA test is not very important.

What appears to have happened is the swab samples of the accuser were sent to the lab followed by the samples in the bathroom and the swabs of the 46 players.

After running the tests, the lab determined there was no DNA (other than her own) on the samples taken from the woman. Therefore, there is no foreign DNA to match to anyone, not just the 46 players.

So it appears the DA didn't know that the lab would find there was no foreign DNA on the woman when he asked for the players' DNA. From his various public statements he seems surprised by the result of no foreign DNA and no matches, so is now backpedaling from his earlier statements about the importance of the DNA test, such as the sworn statement you cited in your post.

I have an opinion...it's rather logical...a bunch of kids hired a dancer from a titty bar to dance at a party....she showed up drunk/stoned...couldn't perform and they were pi$$ed...called the los negroes wench a few names...and then because they go to Duke....the game is on.... How about this...I purpose that if she had as many pricks sticking out of her as she had stuck in her.....she would be a porcupine!! Now you PC jerks have at it!!

I have no problems believing Crystal Mangum was raped. She probably was. Either before or after the LaCrosse trade show in that funny missing 41 minutes (?) between when her boyfriend picked her up, she changed clothes, and ended up at Duke Med. It was here that she yelled, hysterically, that she'd been raped. She didn't say a word about it until then.

You brought up on another thread something I wish you would have data for: It's something the DA said too: That in most instances of rape there is no DNA. Do you have an url for this, pls? I'd like to study this allegation and its data. In fact, there's quite a few of us who would like to study this data.

Thanks!

"...a presumption of guilt in Durham is little different than the lynch-mob mentality that once channeled rage against blacks."

This column uses for the first time an appropriate term for what's happening in Durham - LYNCHING. Instead of rope and a tree, they perps are using ink, paper, videotape air broadcast airwaves....

Since everybody who goes to Duke is from New Jersey, I consider this incident a slap at all Garden Staters.

Found out the prosecutor is white and running for reelection against a black guy. There's a lot of pandering to the black electorate by all of the candidates.

This discussion is pointless. She wasn't raped by those she accused anyway.
