2008 presidential hopeful George Allen urged his Senate colleagues on Sunday to "put the pedal to the metal" on immigration reform and "first and foremost, secure the borders."
"[For] the people out there in the real world . . . this is a hot issue," Sen. Allen told CBS's "Face the Nation." "I think the Senate needs to put the pedal to the metal, get moving, make decisions and first and foremost, secure the borders."
On some of the amnesty bills currently before Congress, Allen said: "We should not reward illegal behavior because all you'll get is more illegal behavior."
Asked if Republican-controlled Congress would "be hurt" by further inaction on illegal immigration, Allen said: "I think Republicans need to stand up for the rule of law. I think Republicans need to stand up for securing our borders. And I think Republicans - and all people - ought to look at history."
The Virginia GOP'er noted that in 1986, amnesty was provided to the 3 million illegals then in the country.
"Now we have approximately 11 million in the country illegally," he added. "Twenty years from now we're going to have 20 million.
"We need to do this right, do it properly and learn from history."

Some of us "moderates" on abortion are not as appreciated as much around here as we would like to be for that point of view. Such is life. :)

Fox news trying to convice their viewers "we" are for amnesty isn't very encouraging.

I miswrote on the first point. But as for that, it is called traking a position. But, as you say, he now has to do something. In the senatteit is hard to do anything. Miswrote? Misspelled? Missed grammar class?

Sorry, but downgrading the God-given and unalienable right to life for any, even a few, is unjust and unacceptable.
As your tagline says: "Stand for life, or nothing at all."

A little appreciation was earned when John Roberts took over as Chief Justice and Samuel Alito was sworn in as Associate Justice. President Bush, who has moved our country closer to a culture of life, took essentially the same position as Senator Allen when he ran for President. Both men are leaders, and winners, in fighting for the sanctity of life.

A Senator who says that Roe v. Wade should be overturned is not downgrading the right to life.

Hogwash. Truth is, John McCain is much more pro-life than George Allen.

McCain has said that Roe v. Wade should not be overturned. George Allen says it should.

A Senator who says that Roe v. Wade should be overturned is not downgrading the right to life. He is when he says that any child can be killed in the womb if they haven't met his arbitrary criteria for maturity.
It's not quite as bad as the Clintonoid, "I'm personally opposed to abortion, but...", but it kinda has the same smell about it...

Far be it from me to defend John McCain, ever.
But at least he doesn't have this odd 'brainwaves' position of George Allen's that makes first-trimester abortions a-okay with him.

"first and foremost, secure the borders." Define please. Attach action plan / cost. real one. You can dink around for 10 billion. A real plan will be a hundred billion a year. From now on.
And, they will still come

Do you support first-trimester abortions?
Do you agree with George Allen that life starts at the commencement of brainwaves?
Do you make a 'rape and incest' exception?

I believe we should secure the border....and that everyone legally here should get a free scoop of ice cream.
Vote for me.
One thread quotes rote common sense statements.
One thread says that he should be President because his wife "looks like a first lady".
That's all it takes for many to go gaga over a candidate.
Allen will not be elected President in 2008.

The only way to move the country toward a culture of life, as President Bush has done, is to stand for the principle that judges cannot decree that abortion is a "right". George Allen defends the right to life. Those who promote people like John McCain do not.

Forgot this question, too:
Do you agree that the abortion question should be decided by the states, as George Allen and John McCain do; or do you think that the right to life is unalienable, and should therefore always be defended by all three branches of our government under our Constitution?

And since Allen is less than Goldwater, where does that leave us?
To even mention Allen with the likes of leaders like Goldwater or Reagan is nonsensical.
There is no "there" there.
Allen would be another Dole.

Do you support first-trimester abortions? Do you agree with George Allen that life starts at the commencement of brainwaves? Do you make a 'rape and incest' exception? No... No... And no. But the Supreme Court does. And so long as judges decree that abortion is a right, it doesn't matter whether you or I agree or not. George Allen, who defends the right to life even though I believe he is incorrect about when it starts, will appoint judges like John Roberts and Samuel Alito. That's what President Bush has done, and he has moved our country toward a culture of life, one that respects the sanctity of life.
