2008 presidential hopeful George Allen urged his Senate colleagues on Sunday to "put the pedal to the metal" on immigration reform and "first and foremost, secure the borders."
"[For] the people out there in the real world . . . this is a hot issue," Sen. Allen told CBS's "Face the Nation." "I think the Senate needs to put the pedal to the metal, get moving, make decisions and first and foremost, secure the borders."
On some of the amnesty bills currently before Congress, Allen said: "We should not reward illegal behavior because all you'll get is more illegal behavior."
Asked if Republican-controlled Congress would "be hurt" by further inaction on illegal immigration, Allen said: "I think Republicans need to stand up for the rule of law. I think Republicans need to stand up for securing our borders. And I think Republicans - and all people - ought to look at history."
The Virginia GOP'er noted that in 1986, amnesty was provided to the 3 million illegals then in the country.
"Now we have approximately 11 million in the country illegally," he added. "Twenty years from now we're going to have 20 million.
"We need to do this right, do it properly and learn from history."

So, are you just a cheerleader, or are you actually reading anything you don't want to hear about Senator Allen?

I've read your posts about Senator Allen on the issues of abortion and immigration, along with your criticism of him as a speaker. I hope you don't mind the perspective from a staunch Allen '08 supporter, which I have been on FR unwaveringly since the beginning.
I'll start with my own disagreement with Senator Allen. I believe George Allen is wrong about when life begins. He thinks it begins in the first few weeks with brain activity. I think it begins at the moment of conception. I think you do as well. We take little comfort in the fact that John F. Kerry agrees with us on that question, for that pro-"choice" RAT doesn't think government should stop abortion.
That is where we find common ground with Senator Allen, who most ardently has stated that courts should not be handing down non-constitutional dictates like Roe v. Wade (he told Chris Matthews that Roe should be overturned). I've heard Senator Allen say this many times. He believes the law on abortion should be made by legislatures, not judges.
And that is precisely what we need in a President, one whose appointments to the courts will undo the judicial tyranny that has been handed down in the form of rulings, the most heinous of which is Roe v. Wade. A candidate can have different views from me on when life begins, so long as they agree that our elected representatives decide the question, not unaccountable judges.
On immigration, George Allen has always been outspoken in support of controlling our borders first. And he has opposed rewarding those who break our laws. Senator Allen's support for a "guest worker" program is only in the context of requiring those who are here illegally to return to their own country and apply legally. I agree with him on that, particularly since he is for enforcing the borders first.
With regard to a fence, George Allen apparently believes that we can enforce the border without one. I'd like to think that, but it may be wrong.
Finally, on the issue of Senator Allen's public image, he is misjudged. No, he is not another Ronald Reagan; he does not have Reagan's charm and public stature. But I've got news for Republicans, there's never going to be another Ronald Reagan.
What George Allen has is the ability to win elections. In 1993, he took on the Clinton machine and James Carville in the throws of their dreadful 1992 victory, who were firmly behind Mary Sue Terry. He crushed them. Then, in 2000, George Allen stood up against the old entrenched RAT power in the form of Senator Chuck Robb, son-in-law of ole LBJ, and he crushed Robb.
Those of us who were in Virginia while Allen was Governor know how he does it. Senator Allen is a true leader with the right sense of achieving excellence. He is a Reaganite, albeit not a Reagan, a winner nonetheless. He will win '08 because he is a winner.
That's why I support him. I hope you think about what I've written here.

Clinton was a great speaker...do we want a beauty queen or someone who is right on the important issues? Allen was able to make a pretty good speech back when he has running for governor here in Virginia. When he starts talking about our first principles as conservatives who love the Constitution it might get more folks thinking about him.

Your above post is to another poster, and not to me, so I'll wait to address the details of what you said.
But, I have to ask how you can say all of that and still use the tagline you're using?

Not totally on point, but George Patton had no respect for static defences. Folly, in his opinion. I would go with a bracero program, because it tailors labor to
need.

My contrast would be that Goldwater wa snot much of a talker. When we got Reagan, we got a first class talks, doer and, even thiunker.

That's why Pence might make a great attack-dog running mate. I really like it that Allen isn't just a senator but an ex-governor as well. In his defense, I say he doesn't want to tip his hand yet -- too soon to announce. Let McCain be the front runner. He isn't going anywhere when the time comes. I hope.

Specially when they did it in little old Dallas. LA was one thing, but Dallas only has a million people or so.

Whom are you inclined to suport for the 2008 nomination again? Not George Allen. :-)

Pence is a leader, that is for sure. But working from the House is hard, even with the support of one's district.

There can be no end to abortion on demand in our country so long as judges in our courts decree that it is a constitutional right, which it is not. So I support George Allen, who will help end abortion on demand by appointing judges that recognize the rights of legislatures to ban abortion.
It also helps that George Allen recognizes the rights of the unborn some weeks after they are conceived. A little late IMO, but an honest disagreement that would be worked out in a legislative process were that allowed to happen. We have in Senator Allen who wants Roe v. Wade overturned, that's what it will take to end abortion.
