When I was in the States in 1997 we drove through Concord MA that was in September and there seemed to be some sort of fete or festival on is September also a significant date.

So you do not have Easter Monday off as such then? What about Good Friday?

What about Good Friday?

Schools are out. Many businesses knock off before noon, but it's nothing official.

We don't get Boxing Day off either. Some state employees get Easter Off. For example, the library is closed today.

OTOH, we get made-up "PC" Holidays like MLK day and Columbus Day off.

There are 10 holidays a year recognized by the US government. I assume the number of holidays per year is about the same in the UK.
