IMMIGRATION'S BIG BUSINESS (Senate no longer represents American citizens)
NY POST ^ | 4/16/06 | EDITORIALS

Posted on 04/16/2006 4:02:38 AM PDT by Liz

THE ISSUE: Tightened immigration control and fraudulent means to amnesty. ("Immigration-Fraud Boom," By Abby Wisse Schachter, PostOpinion, April 10).

**** .....the process to get a green card and citizenship...... isn't as cumbersome as that of some other nations. If prospective U.S. citizens don't want to follow this process, they can either stay home or return to their birthplace. It's as simple as that. Cleveland, Ohio

**** ......if the pro-amnesty forces in Washington get their way.......the multitude of illegal aliens in America will simply overload the already overloaded U.S. immigration system. Just the thought that the pro-amnesty senators and President Bush would even consider amnesty shows how dangerously out of touch they are with the workings of their own government and, more importantly, with the lives of average Americans. The Bronx

**** The Senate obviously no longer represents the American citizen. The illegal-alien situation is beyond what we are able to endure. Our social infrastructure, medical system and prison system are overwhelmed. If our senators think that a $1,000 fine will make things right for an illegal, why do they think that Americans should pay many times that amount in taxes? Calabash, N.C.

The President has said repeatedly that he is AGAINST amnesty. What do these people need, a smack on the head to get them to pay attention?"

IMO, the only anti-amnesty proposal is the one that sends them home first and they must apply for citizenship, legally, like everyone else. Technically, all of the rest of the proposals, including Bush's, will eventually allow them to stay in this country and THAT is giving them amnesty. Unfortunately, even Bush is trying to 'pull a fast one' and I'm not buying.

Absolutely. If we "need" guest workers, let them be people who DIDN'T break our laws!!

EXCERPT ARTICLE #1 "Everyone else frankly is quite tepid about (a boycott)," said Alfredo Gutierrez, a former Democratic state senator and an organizer of the 100,000-person Phoenix march.

ROTFL---"tepid" is an understatement. The fact is the invaders have repulsed most of America. Americans are saying with one voice, "Like hell" to an amnesty bill, or any other bills the invaders might dream up.

In LA---the mail against amnesty is running 500-1. That's what pro-amnesty mayor Villagraiosa admits to---probably more like 5000-1.

Too bad for these airheads, but anti-immigration is seen as much-needed and politically proper. It is a consensus issue that has united every facet of the political spectrum.

The American people are getting wise to the political class and elites. To counter, the politicalites through the open borders policy, will get a voting block that is in their favor. Plus it gives them low cost workers and servants that are subsidized by the taxpyer through the welfare system.

Good job.

Since FOX news first reported that 12 businesses in Phoenix will close down that day, I think they should "followup" on which ones.

The Illegals might be getting a "paid" vacation if the stores close. But it's hard to imagine Wal*Mart would go along with it?

OTOH, the American Public is getting fed-up with their unreasonable demands and protests. So I have mixed emotions about May lst :)

"Well my very preliminary search turned up three news articles all of which are bemoaning the fact that it's hard to get the illegals to keep skipping days of work, because they don't want to get fired and they need the money."

I may have posted this on another thread, but here in my community, it is believed that in order to prevent getting fired, 'someone' planning to participate in protests called in a bomb scare that ended up shutting down their employer, a government office, for the day. Imagine THAT happening all across the country!

I thought they did announce the names and I had just missed it?

I reran the tape, and he definitely did not mention the names of business that was going to close 12 stores.

He said "To tell the truth, very large businesses in the Phoenix area...a Company just called and said that all 12 Stores are going to be closed on May lst..blah, blah.

So if anyone knows what business that is, please help us out here..

I like the way you think--use the RICO laws. If only we could get the Bush Justice Dept. to take care of this instead of throwing so much of its time & resources into hounding Scooter Libby for "lying" about a non-crime.

This is a red-hot potato, and our legislators are too cowardly to take a position that would earn them nothing but scorn.

Speaking personally, I harbor no animus against the illegal aliens. For the most part, I understand their motivation and, put in the same spot, would probably cross the border looking for work myself.

Similarly, I don't harbor any animus toward the employers of illegal aliens. There has been no attempt to enforce the applicable laws and, in order to remain competitive, many employers have simply done what they had to do in order to survive.

In my view, the entire blame for the illegal immigration scandal lies at the feet of our elected officials. We've got laws; they've failed to enforce them. They've created the problem, they damn sure need to find the courage to solve it.
