By the time you can turn it off, it's too late. Even the reality shows are letting stuff through that used to be edited out.
Of course, I suppose you can simply choose not to watch any of the network shows or the cable shows and simply watch....
In other news, the networks have asked the FCC to impose greater restrictions on showing images of muhammad.
I watch news and sometimes a movie and that's about it.
But I don't have children at home either. When the grand kids are here either my wife or I monitor what they watch.
I try not to use foul language but it doesn't offend me personally to hear it on tv. My 4 adult children have never heard me use a curse word nor do they use them in my presence or any where else that I am aware of. I tried to teach them that it was a vile practice and a sure sign of ignorance
I am 60 years old and still haven't heard either of my parents use a curse word. My father is deceased now but my mother is alive and well and 86 years old.
CORRECTION:
My Mom is 85, not 86 and she might be tempted to use a curse word if she knew I added a year to her age.
Or that foul unhealthy food proliferating at restaurants. McDonald's needs to be removed from the public sphere. If you want a cheeseburger, make it at home.
Does the FCC regulate the broadcast content of Hams? What is the fine for a Ham using the "F" word?
There is no such thing as being a "private" broadcaster. When you put messages in the air they are far from private.
Cable and satellite broadcasts are for paying customers, and the FCC does not currently regulate its content.
Would you like to get the federal government involved in regulating private (cable/satellite) broadcast content as well?
I'll pay these arguments some heed the second someone can logically explain to me why excrement is an ok word but sh-- is not. They mean exacly the same thing, so how does one set of syllables become profane while anohter just refers to the product of the bowels.
Sounds like a crock of "S" word to me. Adults can choose what they and their children watch. If it's offensive - turn it off.
I am glad the networks are fighting back. I can't stand the govornment involved in what we watch on the TV. They should shut down the FCC and put that money towards the war on terror or the deficit. While were at it, add the IRS and Department of Education to those that should be shut down. Can you imagine that we have a department that all they do is watch TV and assign fines...what a crock!!!!!
This is especially true, considering the fact that we have the information (ratings) and tools (content-blocking devices) to block any TV content that we don't want to see. What's more, we can regulate our own content regardless of what is being transmitted over the airwaves.
TV Watch, at http://www.televisionwatch.org, addresses this issue very neatly...check it out!
