Activist Kabaka Oba Has Died
LAST UPDATE: 4/15/2006 6:53:35 PM
We have just learned a local activist has died.
Kabaka Oba passed away Saturday at University Hospital.
Kabaka Oba, whose real name is Michael Bailey, was shot several times outside Cincinnati City Hall Wednesday afternoon.
The man accused of shooting Kabaka Oba, Howard Beatty, 52, is still locked up on more than a $1 million bond.
Beatty currently faces an attempted murder charge. That charge most likely will be upgraded to murder.
Kabaka Oba had recently taken out a restraining order against Beatty.
Police say it was issued because of an ongoing dispute between the two men.
Howard's brother, George, tells us a recent interview on Cable Access Television is what pushed his brother over the edge.
"I looked at him and said if you shoot me you're going to jail," said Kabaka Oba. "And I will have my sodomite friends make sure they tuck you into bed at night."
You may recall, Kabaka Oba referred to himself as "General" of the Black Fist organization. The movement frequents city council meetings and regularly disrupts proceedings.
According to court documents, Beatty is scheduled to appear in court April 21st.
"I looked at him and said if you shoot me you're going to jail, and I will have my sodomite friends make sure they tuck you into bed at night."
Words fail me.
He knows now whether his world view was right, or wrong.
I trust he was suitably dissapointed.
I further pray that he finds peace in the knowledge that God loves him and forgives his sins.
Sheds some light on what exactly the "Black Fist Organization" was up too.
Riots soon to commence in Over The Rhine.
That's gonna leave a mark...
He was a major racist thug...who now has met his reward.
The night is young. The conspiracy theories will fire up people until dark and then ...
does anyone here listen to WLW radio? I like Mike Mcconnell (sp) in the mornings. right now is probably a repeat of his weekend show, unless they are breaking in live.
Bus driver.
I have to admit, whenn I first heard he had been shot, my first reaction was, he hired someone to wound him, then I heard the details of how many times he was hit, etc.
Cincinnati has had these problems for years. It's probably the most divisive city in America.
Bill Cunningham rocks!
I live in downtown Cincinnati and all is quiet.... so far. The droopy drawred, white t-shirted youths are always looking for a reason to fly off at the handle. I just hope they missed the evening news.
Scott Sloan is THE funniest person. He can make any subject entertaining.
good riddance...
as my city turned to New Detriot, the local talk radio gave this guy hours and hours of airtime over the years,I guess they thought he was funny,or good for ratings,as he spewed his hateful rhetoric.I guess thats ok,he was a black activist...and its funny to the rado station guys out in their comfy, sterile suburbs. To us folk behind the lines in the city, his words served to incite those already prone to violence,to see an enemy in every white face.Perhaps McConnel and Cunningham would consider giving some time to his opposite viewpoint holder, wait, that would be racisssst...
wonder if the taxpayers will get to foot the bill for his extensive hospital expenses?sure, why not...

I grew up in Boston during busing in the '70s. But you're right. Cincy is the 21st century Boston when it comes to racial tensions.
