Better yet, let's count the total number of stars on "our side" versus "their side".

I agree that it's not a real strong agruement, but it is a talking point and liberals do make their conclusions from talking points.

The generals who have been critical of Rumsfeld have been giving such vague examples of reasons to force Rumsfeld to resign.

But, it's good to see Rumsfeld has alot of support in his corner.

"I believe we need a fresh start in the Pentagon," retired Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who commanded the Army's 1st Infantry Division in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, told CNN cable network. "We need a leader who understands teamwork, a leader who knows how to build teams, a leader that does it without intimidation. You know, it speaks volumes that guys like me are speaking out."

Yes, it speaks volumes. Guys like you could not rise to the top, so you blame "mean people" for keeping you from obtaining your deserved 3rd or 4th star.

Rumsfeld is a great Secretary of Defense. He's done an outstanding job. For example, 50 million people in Afghanistan and Iraq have been liberated, both countries have had free elections, and we haven't had a terrorist attack in the U.S. since 9/11/01. Thousands of terrorists have been killed or jailed. Rumsfeld has done a wonderful job, particularly considering the degree of difficulty involved. We are lucky to have him.

In any group of people, there are always a few who disagree with the majority opinion. General officers are no different. They tend to be highly intelligent and accomplished, since the competition for promotion to that level is fierce. They have a high level of confidence in their own judgment, and they've often gotten out of the habit of hearing anyone question their decisions.

I imagine there's general agreement among them, as there is on this forum, that some of the decisions made by President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld, were in fact poor ones--no government has ever fought a war without mistakes. So it's no surprise that there's disagreement.

What's unusual, in my opinion, is the number of general officers who are voicing their criticism openly and publicly, in a manner calculated to dishearten the troops and the civilian populace, and encourage our enemies, both foreign and domestic. I think they are showing exceptionally poor judgement in so doing, and are behaving in a manner unbecoming an officer in the United States military services.

Any retired general officer still has ample means to make his views known to our leaders without publicly criticizing them. The idea, supported by our internal leftist enemies, that criticizing the President and other leaders during a time of war is somehow an act of courage and integrity couldn't be more wrong. It's self-serving, disloyal, and damaging to our troops and to the country.

I'm glad to see General Myers and others coming forward to voice support for the President and Mr. Rumsfeld.

He said he would elaborate his views in an op-ed essay.

Can't wait to see it buried in the press. /sarc

Hmmm. You reckon THESE Generals will get as much ink or air time as the 6 who DON'T like Rummy? I, for one, won't be holding my breath waiting.

I kind of like counting how many enemies Rummy has. The more that pop up, the easier it is to tag our (joint) enemies.

Besides, it speaks to Rummy's credit he's earned such hatred among them. To his count he has some enemies I'm jealous of. After all, I'd love to have General "Maverick" poking pins in a stuffed doll representative of myself. Would make me feel wonderful. lol

My Army MI Captain friend thinks Rummy has done a great job along with tons of other active military in all the services...all he's said is we're not being tough enough in Iraq. He says quit all this politically correct crapola. LOL
