PURCELL -- Just steps from her father's apartment on N. 8th St, investigators said they identified and apprehended Friday afternoon a 26-year-old man they believe is responsible for the kidnapping and subsequent murder of 10-year-old Jamie Rose Bolin.
Bolin was reported missing after she failed to return home Wednesday afternoon from a trip to the library.
A downstairs neighbor, Kevin Ray Underwood, is being held without bond in the McClain County Jail today and will be charged with one count of first degree murder Monday, said District Attorney Tim Kuykendall at a press conference late Friday night.
"In my 24 years as a prosecutor, I have never, ever been involved in a case that was quite as atrocious, heinous and as cruel as to what happened to this little girl," Kuykendall said. "We intend to seek the death penalty on this."
As of press time, officials were securing search warrants for Underwood's car and apartment, both sites which may yield even more charges, Kuykendall said.
Earlier in the investigation, it was believed Bolin was abducted by a possible Internet contact who drove a dark blue Tahoe. Friday night, Kuykendall said "as it turns out, the information is probably going to be unrelated (to Bolin's murder)."
Police apprehended Underwood at his apartment around 4 p.m. Friday after he began acting suspiciously at a police roadblock earlier that day.
The neighbor, said Bolin's aunt Linda Chiles, "pretty much kept to himself" and was relatively unknown to Bolin or her father, Curtis.
As of press time, Kim Carter of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said he was unable to determine how long Bolin was kept alive at the apartment before she was killed, nor were officials able to release any details related to the ongoing investigation.
"This is not like TV, it will not be wrapped up in a 60-second present," he said.
Jamie's uncle, Mark Chiles, still reeling from the news that his 10-year-old niece was kidnapped, likely held against her will and killed, said he warned parents everywhere to "hold onto their kids tight."
"This happened less than 10 feet of where (her father lived)," he said. "People need to know who their neighbors are."
Family members intend to set up an emergency fund at Bank of Oklahoma, Linda Chiles said. For more information, inquire at the Purcell Police Department, 527-4600.

You're quite right about folding up the tents.
I think its where the lefties have it wrong: that progressivism for its own sake is simply licence, and foisted upon us, especially our children, is a form of tyranny.
Don't know about walling off the loonies. Certainly I like the idea. Still, as a practical matter how can we get it done?
I kinda like the idea of hanging and drawing and quartering.
Death for child molesters
Senator Jay Paul Gumm says repeat child molesters should face the death penalty or life without parole, and he has written legislation to ensure they do just that.
"Those who repeatedly prey on our children in this unspeakable manner should face the most severe penalties allowed under our justice system," said Gumm, a Democrat from Durant who is a Senate assistant majority leader.
Senate Bill 1747 would make repeat child molesters subject to the death penalty or life without parole. That, Gumm said, would let the justice system better protect children from those sex offenders who never will be rehabilitated.
This wasn't getting much traction, but maybe now it will.
By the way, the date on that item is February 1, 2006.
There are hundreds in my zip code. Darn near every one has "lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14" on their rap sheet.
I have a daughter, a son, and a 12 ga. and I know what these guys look like...
My guess is that if he "inappropriately touched" this girl you'd be calling for his execution. Figuring that he has nothing to lose, he probably killed her to keep her from testifying.
Nice of you to stand up for him. (/sarcasm)
Did you see Tim, our DA, last night on TV? I have never seen or heard him like that when he was commenting about this heinous crime and immediately he said he would seek the death penalty.
That really bothered me about what this little girl must have gone through -- at one point they were still waiting for a search warrant.
Having this happen in someplace like Purcell sends shivers up your spine -- this is a town that parents think their kids are safe because it is downhome rural Oklahoma. I know where the library is because I was there several weeks ago for the Ron Davis kick-off for the Senate seat of Hobson. Do you know where these apartments are in relation to the library which is actually in a school building?
What he said is logical.
I know where the library is, but don't recall seeing the apartment complex. I suspect we'll be seeing lots more of it in the days to come, so I'll likely find out. (We were at the library just a couple of weeks ago to donate some books.)
Not really. Not if you knew all the facts of this case. This wasn't just "killing."
I don't think he just killed her -- looks to be pretty gruesome from the sound of our DA's voice and his comments. I know Tim pretty well and he was shook up. This girl was in the apartment for two days according to reports and the guy was gone. According to the Oklahoman he was pulled over, got shook up, and they took him in for questioning.
Not to mention they are still looking for the man and Tahoe that her girlfriends said she got in the vehicle with at the library according to The Oklahoman this morning.

Not happy that your "Kill All the Child Molesters" campaign isn't working the way you thought?
Actually, this guy is a posterboy for killing all the child molesters. Next question?
I figured it was bad news when I heard the Amber report was lifted, and they didn't show the little girl being reunited with her family. It seems the kids down there come and go all the time in town because it is such an open and friendly place.
Frightening isn't it?
I have book marked a web site - California's Registered Sex Offenders. My neighbors have children and they were horrified to discover that we have some of RSOs on our block!
And those are just the ones you know about--for instance, so far they're saying this guy has no record, so he would not have had to register as a sex offender. Those that haven't been caught yet still live where they choose, and are anonymous.
I agree with you 1000000000 percent!!!!!!!!
Publicly execute these filthy worthless bastards!
I prefer crucifying him upside down and leave out in the hot sun of the desert or impaling him alive and burning him. Better yet toss him out of an airplane and into the Mariana Trench.
I hope that bill passes. I hope all states pass a bill like that.
