Alleluia!

I haven't seen the poster/pic. Sounds like one I'd like to see. I've met a TON of NYers since moving here. And not a single one wishes to ever return to NY. One just came back from a visit. She said she brought back the best part of her stay: A suitcase FULL of Italian Deli meats, pastas and sweets. :)

I keep running into transplants from NY, Chicago, Los Angeles. Every last one of us is glad to be here. And not a single one is an unreconstructed Yankee. (I guess those ones all live in Carey).

But I have been to Carey. Great Shopping. Blue-nosed nobby liberals abound. I don't go to Carey often if at all and that I can avoid it. My throat starts closing up: It's got all the liberal "looks" and appearances: "We are just so chic".

Uh oh ... Kim's attorney says she has been working with the DA all along, and her account differs from the defense theory ... at least in part. Defense attorney Bill Thomas points out that they have her committing to certain facts that will be hard for her to change now that she has a lawyer.

That's what I had read on that. If she was hollering etc, she could have been high/drunk on some other drug that she ingested herself.

"So what do you think of those blacks who accuse other blacks of trying to act White? Is that a racist accusation, er um, something else?"
________________________________________________
that's a good question-i'm not sure i can answer it very well--it gets into some very subtle issues about race and the mainstream american culture. i have never been present when such an accusation has been made, so the following is mere conjecture:
i think it is a serious mistake for black people to criticize other blacks for "acting white"--i am guessing the accused are merely trying to be successful by behaving in a mainstream ("white") way. this accusation may have more to do with class differences within the black community. in my experience, middle class black people do not act much different from middle class whites.
or, the accusation may primarily be made by high-school kids who resent some of their peers acting "white" (mainstream; middle class) to get ahead.
i can also remember some of my white high school peers who acted in a very suck-up, political way, in order to get good college recommendations from teachers. so the accusation among black high schoolers may be for similar behavior.

snip:

The accuser is dropped off at about 11:45, about a half hour after the other (second) stripper arrived. By midnight, according to a photo, the two are almost naked on the beige carpet in front of their visibly happy audience. But by 12:03, the mood has turned: in a photo, the women are standing and the second stripper appears to be reaching toward the guys, all of whom have lost their smiles. She slaps one of them for suggesting the alleged victim use a broom as a sex toy, according to Ekstrand. Then both women lock themselves in the bathroom, Ekstrand details. The partygoers get nervous about what the women are up to and start slipping money under the door asking them to leave, says Bill Thomas, a lawyer who represents one of the captains. The women go out to the second stripper's car at about 12:20, but the accuser has left her purse behind; she goes back inside to get it, according to Ekstrand. A photo at 12:30 shows the alleged victim standing outside the back door of the house looking down into two bags with what appears to be a smile. She's wearing only her scant red-and-white outfit and one shoe. By the time she realizes she's missing a shoe—a few minutes later—the guys have locked the door to keep her out, say the attorneys.

Defense maintains the "rape" happened AFTER this dancing event.

Thoughtful answer.

I don't know where you are located; but I'm from San Francisco. In the 90s, this accusation of acting "white" by blacks to other blacks was causing a great many problems, academically and socially.

One of the many great articles on the subject of "acting white" by Thomas Sowell. He also lives in the SF Bay area.

some jokes are just jokes; some are very cruel insults.
i assume most people, of all races, make jokes in private that would not be appropriate in public. i try not to hurt people unnecessarily, so i avoid making those sorts of comments in public.
in new york, it would be considered inappropriate to make racial comments in any public setting. this was not true when i was a kid. i think this change in behavior has helped new york survive with its mixture of racial and ethnic groups.

"That shadow exists in Jesse's mind."

i think Jesse would like to cash in on this, but probably realizes it is based on a false accusation. he is being very careful in his comments, and i think he is hedging his bets to see which way it goes.
i would guess that both jesse and al have a very well-developed ability to sense which accusations are real and which are fake. they are both waiting on this, and both of them have been pretty guarded in their statements.

I concur. On each of your points. If the young man did indeed make the "insult" comment, he did so thinking it was in re a private matter. But it took place in public.

So how to explain racist commentary in Rap. And Hip-Hop. Contributing to the civility of society? Or Jackson constantly going on about whites and slavery and plantations? Contributing to society?

I think you and I would both agree: These do not contribute to civil society.

I'm thinking she was strung out before she arrived. And since I have no idea whether or not DMC did anyother tests besides "consistent with rape" testing, Cocaine. Drug along those lines. In the bathroom. Both girls.

Too much "upper" would render her in the state she was, out of it, but clutching the handbrake. And prone.

There's that unaccountable time span -- before she arrived at the hospital in different garb.

What did he hope to find at the dorms on Thursday night?

Alcohol and condoms, thereby proving guilt on the part of the players.

They must not have enough evidence, and were looking to plant some.

I think on average the behavior of the adult professionals that relocate to North Carolina is better than the students that attend Duke. They are, shall we say, looking for different things. Maturity, children, and appreciation for relatively cheap housing will do that.

Local joke: CARY = Containment Area for Relocated Yankees

Geographical note to out-of-state readers: The "Triangle" in North Carolina consists of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill with North Carolina State University (NCSU), Duke and the University of North Carolina (UNC-CH), respectively. The name comes from a 50-year-old state initiative called "Research Triangle Park" (RTP) in which the state successfully used the proximity of the three universities to entice relocation to North Carolina of corporate R&D facilities. Cary, formerly just a stop on the rail line west of Raleigh, is located approximately south of RTP and was an exploding bedroom community that served RTP. Thus it had a high proportion of people new to North Carolina.

I think that Jesse Jackson has better sources than all the newspapers and the DA put together and probably knows more about what happened than anyone. The fact that he is not here is significant to me.

i'm from new york city and i live on long island.
i've read about the accusation in articles, but have never directly heard it.
i don't doubt that it has caused real problems for people.

i agree with you about rap and about jesse.
from what i have read about jesse, he has always been a sort of con man, using the civil rights movement for his own advantage and profit. i think william bennet called him a "race hustler from chicago".

i think the warrant said her pill bottle was next to her pocket book, which would suggest that she had taken out the bottle and injested the pills while she was there. if she is an addict (which is likely, given her past alcohol history and her profession), she had probably also taken drugs prior to the party.
