By staff report April 4, 2006 A St. Lucie County sheriff's deputy was attacked and bitten by a pit bull Saturday, one of two he was trying to catch after they attacked and nearly killed a small dog. According to sheriff's reports, Deputy Charles Wiley was trying to help Animal Control Officer Linda Van Rixal capture two pit bulls loose in the 7300 block of Santa Rosa Parkway in Lakewood Village when the dogs, a male and a female, attacked him, knocking him to the ground.
Wiley reported that the male dog bit him on the right outer thigh. He was later treated and released at a Port St. Lucie clinic. More deputies arrived, and when the male dog approached Deputy Paul McNesky in a threatening manner, Wiley and McNesky each fired a single shot and killed it.
I like happy endings.
Some yeasr ago a pit bull was within 3 feet of leaping to my throat. Finally the owner ran out and had to wrestle the dog to the ground to keep it from ripping me apart. I'm not big (5'6") and it was an evening walk, I was completely unprepared for an attack.
Naturally, the dog owner accused me of "agitating" his dog (I didn't see it until it was a few feet from me, getting ready to spring).
I called animal control about it and they had had several complaints about that dog already. It's probably mauled someone by now.
BTW, I have a conceled carry permit now.
Pit Bull alert!
Ahem, if someone is thinking of posting all those doggie pictures and challenging people to pick out the pit bull, please don't bother.
I can always pick them out--they're the ones with blood dripping from their fangs.
My brother had a black Lab puppy killed by a pit bull who wandered into his neighborhood some years back.
He enticed the dog into the back seat of his car with a couple of left-over pork chops. Then drove the dog into the woods outside of town, enticed the dog out of the car with his "last meal" and emptied his 9MM pistol into the bastard.
That breed is only good for one thing: target practice.
Just today two coworkers of mine were chatting. Coworker #1 had 40 or so stitches in her elbow...Apparently her neighbor has a pitbull...She was leaning over their fence, talking to the neighbor, when his pitbull attacked her...Coworker #2 said, "Well, you were apparently invading his space". If that's truly all it takes to set off a pitbull, I'm going to start carrying my .45 a lot more.
It's the owner's fault. They didn't raise the dog right! /sarc
Round up all these dogs and send them to Iran!
The pit bull is the official trailer park/redneck dog of the South.
Yup, that's a good start.
"Well, you were apparently invading his space". If that's truly all it takes to set off a pitbull, I'm going to start carrying my .45 a lot more."
Whatever happened to a little good ole fashioned barking or growling?
Pit Bulls should be reclassified. They are not a domesticated breed.
I haven't been north of the Florida state line since 1985...that's when I moved back here from Chicago (actually suburban Hoffman Estates). So that puts me 21 years out of date.
From your neck of the woods...
NEWTON -- Newton Police subdued a vicious pit bull and his owner with pepper spray in Nonantum last week, concerning at least one resident who wants to see tougher leash law enforcement.
"I love dogs, but certain ones are dangerous," said Chapel Street resident Laszlo Horsik. "Its worrisome...I have a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old."
The rampaging pit bull attacked two dogs on Chapel Street on March 21, just before 6 p.m., according to police. The pit bull had to be dragged off a golden retrievers throat and the back of another dog named Bailey.
The pit bulls owner, Richard Jackson, 23, of 11 Hancock St., Everett, reportedly took his dog and tried to leave the area. When police tried to stop him, he refused to listen and shouted obscenities at them, saying police were targeting him because he was black.
